Love this!
• Stepping away from the Ward round team to wash your hands at the sink…
• making a cup of tea mid clinic…
… Can make a difference! #MedSky

Advocacy is a skill, and the time to lead is now.
How will you advocate for a better system this week?

Small recovery is still recovery.
And in high-stakes work, it is part of how we stay sharp, humane, and sustainable.
What is one tiny way you could recover on purpose this week?
What is one system change you could advocate for?
#PhysicianWellness #Leadership
That has a cost:
narrower attention
less patience
more brittle decision-making
Recovery does not have to be BIG to matter.
Sometimes it looks like:
– one real snack
– one minute of slower breathing
– one pause before switching roles
in healthcare we train load relentlessly. We spend far less time training recovery. quote from author
Ever notice how we are taught to enter demanding moments in medicine…but almost never taught how to recover from them?
After a hard case, a tense meeting, or a night call, many of us go straight into the next thing still gripping the last one. 🧵 1/

I was deeply honored to receive the 2026 IMPACT Award for the College of Education and Human Services at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. As I said during my acceptance speech, my IUP PhD changed me as a person and allowed me to discover and pursue my passion for gender equality.
I am so glad the conversation is now including the importance of transitions! these can be on a micro (OR to clinic) or macro (trainee to attending) level 🤩

Identity diversity - being well rounded - is so important in #PhysicianWellness.

A good read.
We in 🇨🇦 are moving away from “benign” terminology as it misrepresents the devastating impact on QOL.
Call it “core” Gynecology. Prioritize and fund it.
Knowledge translation & science comm in action! ❤️❤️

My latest op-ed in @statnews.com is out today. I wrote it in response to the LCME removing explicit language requiring medical schools to teach about structural barriers that shape patients’ health. This isn’t ideology. It’s clinically competent care.

What an egregious claim! Thank you for speaking up.

Perhaps especially during burnout ?
One of the most important nontechnical skills in surgery isn’t only what happens in the OR.
It’s what happens BETWEEN rooms, roles, and emotional states.
Mindful transitions are a form of #situationalawareness, and crucially important.
Coming up Educator Studio Session Tuesday 14 April 2026 Time: 6.00-7.00pm AEDT Topic: The science and art of decision-making in surgery Presenter: A/Prof. Rhea Liang About the topic: As we approach the ASC with the theme The Art and Science of Collaboration, A/Prof Liang provides a deep dive into the Art and Science of surgical decision-making through her collaboration in a BJS-commissioned monograph with leading surgeons from the UK, US, Asia and Australasia. This monograph explores key questions in an increasingly complex healthcare environment. What are human factors? Is there really such a thing as a surgical 'personality'? Can we train better decision-making? Do patients and surgeons even agree on what is 'better' decision-making? And will Al improve or destroy our ability to make decisions?
Tonight! 😅
Delighted to present our recent @bjsurgery.bsky.social -commissioned publication on surgical decision-making to the @racsurgeons.bsky.social Academy of Surgical Educators. See you there 🤗

In a heated OR moment, one simple trick: talk to yourself in the third person.
We give better advice to others than to ourselves.
As @mehdirhasan.bsky.social puts it:
“One of the most effective ways we can channel self-talk to our benefit is to make a small but key change: Get rid of the ‘I.’”
Big congrats! Excited for what’s next
Science is good. We should fund it.
We needed this moment of collective joy.
