If you're feeling angry, heartbroken, or confused — I'm right there with you. Do what you need to do: scream into a pillow, journal until the ink runs out of your pen, or take a walk to listen to the birds. Then, come back and call your Rep. This isn't over.

H4756 must return to the House since the Senate amended it. The House must approve of the changes before the bill moves to the Governor for signature. South Carolinians need to call their Representatives NOW and tell them to insist on their version of H4756. It's easy to call: aclusc.org/call
Our Senators know better. I expected them to do better, and they let me down.
Senators went a step further than the House and made H4756 deeply dehumanizing. They amended the bill to allow portable restrooms to serve as an accommodation for transgender people. So when I ask, "Where do you want me to use the restroom?" Senators send me and all trans South Carolinians outside.
H4756 originated in the House, where it passed in the first few weeks of the session. It is bad policy; similar laws have been struck down in the courts. It is absurd; it would require me - a bald, bearded transgender man - to use the women's restroom.
The SC State Senate has passed H4756, which requires that people use restrooms that match their birth certificates. The bill applies to K-12 public schools as well as higher education facilities and events, including arts performances and sporting events.
Conversations with my mother often get me thinking. When I was recently telling her about all of the proposed laws that would harm transgender people, she wondered why lawmakers were spending so much time attacking a small population. When I couldn't stop thinking about our chat, I started writing.
Spot on commentary: bills like H4756 and S199 don't make anyone safer. They encourage (and facilitate via lawsuits) questioning of who belongs in restrooms, threatening women and girls who don't meet society's standards of what a woman should look like. scdailygazette.com/2026/02/10/s...

Incredibly proud of our team who is fighting for Dr. Bregy. Faculty and students urged Clemson to stand up to the political mob, but they caved and fired a beloved educator. We'll see Clemson in court. All the details, including what Dr. Bregy posted is here: www.aclusc.org/en/press-rel...
Who from the Columbia City Council betrayed the city's residents by asking state lawmakers to strip $3M+ from their local budget just to attack LGBTQ kids? @aclusc.bsky.social More from @wistv.com: www.wistv.com/2025/05/27/a...
With @aclusc.bsky.social, I travel around the state talking with South Carolinians who are shocked and scared by what they see from the Trump administration. They ask me, “What are we supposed to do?” I tell them there are three things to do in this moment: charlestoncitypaper.com/2025/05/09/w...
Grateful to @malindalo.bsky.social for speaking out against Superintendent Ellen Weaver's crusade to remove books from all school libraries (K-12).
BREAKING: We’re suing the Trump administration to block its executive order attempting to restrict access to gender-affirming care for transgender people under the age of 19 nationwide.
