Saw a Cybertruck yesterday for the first time up close and in person. Hard to articulate how huge, dumb, and ugly they are. Like some stage prop that escaped into the wild.

The ties between Orban's political project in Hungary and the long term direction of conservative politics in Australia run pretty deep. And they aren't just about election strategies but also something at a deeper cultural level.
I love this film so much. It's one I often recommend to other creatives who are feeling burnt out or blocked. Not my fav Ghibli film but very special in its own way.
The Premier unrepentantly seems to think so.
I was hoping to buy some lino cut tools from Hands. Can even picture them in my mind. But the branch I visit has reconfigured that floor to make room for more tourist tat. Radically cutting the room for tools. Felt sad and lost for a minute.
Surprising amount of Sakura left to enjoy.
And glad I packed a few warmer clothes as well.
I canโt see it. As much as I want a non-US platform to thrive.
100% agree. Iโm bracing myself for those milquetoast budget imaginable.
Deep love for this show from when the first episode dropped.
Youโre still using Upscrolled?
My nearest polling station in a nice beachside Adelaide suburb gave more than a quarter of their primary votes to ON. I didnโt want to believe it would come to this either but here we are.
โFewer violent conflicts now end with a peace deal or clear victory. Since the 1970s, the percentage of conflicts that end with a clear victory has dropped from 49 per cent to nine per cent, while the proportion of conflicts ending in peace agreements has fallen from 23 per cent to four per cent.โ
Or perhaps to put it another way, a constituency? I'd love to believe it's just a fringe protest vote. But it feels like we're beyond that now.
Everyone knows ON's marquee ideas on immigration. Ugly stuff.
But the South Australia election showed their second set of ideas, very popular with their growing base; climate change denial, anti-renewable energy, and anti-EV bias.
And there, again, the big parties are helping ON grow their base.
I wrote 5000 pretty decent words on The New Manuscript during yesterday's flight. For me that's an almost unprecedented amount writing in a single day. And a fascinatingly productive way to start a new project. Confirms this change is what I needed right now.
It was later, based on the features present, like Spaces.
But the philosophy was still the same. And once it became impossible to implement that was of using Twitter, I quit.
Sometimes I wondered if the more effort we put into that stuff on Threads the more it attracted junk.

Years ago I sketched out a "How to Use Twitter Course." My idea was to give it away free alongside a newsletter I was writing back then. The course never got built. But the mindmap shows how many useful customisation features Twitter had back then.

Yes to all of that. Also why I gave up. Because of the way I used Twitter I was oblivious to a big chunk of the rage that lived there. But Threads gives you nowhere to hide.
Looked at Threads. The feed is still junk. It loads really badly in the browser. Most of the people I follow seem to drawing little or no engagement. Bluesky might be struggling but Threads still feels far worse.
Fascists age badly. Or they age very weirdly. I know it's not good form to mock people's looks as they get older. But it does feel like there's something in this that deserves to commented upon.
Today's Japanese lesson was fun. Felt relaxed with reading. Most of my guesses were right or nearly right. I'm clearly in a much better head space with learning now. And a more realistic set of learning goals. It's gone from a obligation I dreaded to a hobby I enjoy.
Live events are activated by communities. What made Twitter so powerful for live events was the presence of the communities that supported those events, whether it was sports, elections, concerts, whatever.
I used to post a lot (on Twitter) because I felt like part of a conversation. I was talking to people where I lived (Hong Kong, then Singapore, then Tokyo) and people in similar kinds of work. There was a big overlap between my online circles and IRL circles.
First time I heard Cult of Personality was on flexidisc that came with Guitar Player magazine. I was mesmerised.
I like colours.

Thank you. That was a great read. Still such a clear and insightful thinker.
There are few things I overthink as much as I overthink packing.
