I get why Pelosi gaveled out after the votes were certified. (People were traumatized and they still had to certify the vote). But it turned out to be a fatal error to let people go home, which allowed for the right-wing disinformation machine to coalesce around Trump.

Yes! And also, take into account, Obama was in office for six years at that point. Six-year itches are normal. But Trump has sort of been on the public scene for 10! Combine that with a war in Iran, a sluggish economy, high gas prices and people just not feeling things are getting better.

A lot of guys got the yips in the weeks after January 6. Even Rubio was mad initially and sounded like he would convict if the trial happened. The January 6th impeachment trial was a comedy of errors for multiple reasons (Pelosi delaying the impeachment resolution, McConnell's delay of the trial).

True! Though North Carolina's always a swing state, even if it pretends to be a red state. The real question is whether electing a Democratic senator cracks the state GOP in a way it previously hadn't.

Democrats used to! Hell, Republicans have a senator in New England that won in a state Biden won by nine points! Republicans have governors in two New England States (New Hampshire and Vermont) that voted for Harris. They had a Republican senator in Illinois as late as 2016.

North Carolina is trending blue. Need to see what Ol' Thom Tillis has to say about the Canes.

That was a really bad year for Democrats. The Obamacare website farted out, some people lost their health care plans, ISIS began kidnapping Americans and killing them and people freaked out about Ebola (even though, Obama's strategy on Ebola kind of worked).

I wouldn't call Ohio a "Deep-red" state. Brown outperformed Kamala Harris in a bad year in 2024 and has a good shot to win this year (though he's clearly the underdog). Still need to get him on record about your Blue Jackets.

In fairness, the man wanted to send troops on Black Lives Matter Protesters AND January 6 rioters. Man just likes order.

Shelley Moore Capito is doing ok too. But it's a reminder of how many seats Democrats lost in 2014 during the Obama six-year itch. Democrats got their ass handed to them. Nowadays, Democrats barely try competing in deep-red states. The only exceptions are Texas and Alaska.

True! Joe Kent resigned. The isolationists lost.

Oh? How could I forget? Jon Ossoff cooked Dave Perdue, called him a crook and sent his ass to China.

Cotton is now Intel Chairman, but he had to shepherd the confirmation of Tulsi Gabbard, who disagrees with him that we should bomb everybody. Rounds is a trusted negotiator with Democrats. The rest? Completely torpedoed (Save for Sullivan, who might hang on).

The 2014 Senate class of Republicans is kind of cooked now:
Tillis: Retiring
Ernst: Retiring
Cassidy: Fighting for his life in a primary and backing RFK Jr.
Sullivan: In a tough race vs. Peltola
Daines: Retiring
Gardner: Lost in 2020

The only guys who turned out all right were Cotton and Rounds

Bibi torched U.S. support for Israel for a generation Older Republicans and white Evangelicals are the last groups to hold majority favorable views of Israel.

We talk a lot about how support for Israel is down among young Democrats. But it's also down 31 percentage points among older Democrats and down 14 percentage points among Protestants, 23 among Catholics and 20 among the religiously unaffiliated. www.axios.com/2026/04/18/i...

Good question, honestly! He was hawkish on Iran in the 1980s. But he did hate it was Obama's deal.

Kamala Harris says Trump ‘got pulled into’ Iran war by Netanyahu Former Vice President Kamala Harris and other Democratic presidential contenders spoke at a fundraiser in Detroit. Harris’ comments focused on the economy and the war on Iran, the latter of which she ...

FWIW, Harris said this very line in Detroit during the state's party convention. (Which is interesting because Harris tried to split the difference on Bibi Netanyahu when she ran for president and wound up making nobody happy).

FWIW, Trump has always been a hawk on Iran, even when he parroted non-interventionist talking points. He railed against the Iran nuclear agreement in his 2015 when he announced his candidacy for president.

An April 20, 2026, 10:16 AM post from Donald Trump saying "Israel never talked me into the war with Iran, the results of Oct. 7th, added to my lifelong opinion that IRAN CAN NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON, did. I watch and read the FAKE NEWS Pundits and Polls in total disbelief. 90% of what they say are lies and made up stories, and the polls are rigged, much as the 2020 Presidential Election was rigged. Just like the results in Venezuela, which the media doesn’t like talking about, the results in Iran will be amazing - And if Iran’s new leaders (Regime Change!) are smart, Iran can have a great and prosperous future! President DJT"

Trump pushes back on the notion that Israel talked him into war with Iran.

Stefanik is retiring. She doesn’t need to hitch her wagon to Trump anymore. She is doing it because she wants to do it.

Very much so! It’s also not an accident that living in Georgia, be invokes religion, specifically rhetoric from the Black church. He’s also not someone who always clamors for the mics in the halls of the Capitol.

Kind of amazing how Ossoff went from being a no-name Hill staffer who lost an open House seat in Trump 1.0 to now being not only the sole incumbent Democrat running for reelection in a state Trump won, but also incredibly likely to win reelection.
