Please consider signing this petition against the deeply short-sighted, ill-advised decision to close yet another Languages department. Less language teachers means a sadder, smaller world🌍🌎🌏

What more will it take for this govt to get off the fence and put proper funding behind one of the country’s most valuable and recognised global assets, rather than being complicit in this insane act of self-harming educational vandalism? www.researchprofessionalnews.com/rr-news-uk-u...
👆This article makes for a very interesting reading.
The proceedings of the Translating and the Computer 45 Conference are finally out! There, you can find my latest paper "Post-Editing Machine Translation Beyond the Binary: Insights into Gender Bias and Screen Activity" tradulex.com/varia/TC45-l...
She is looking for relevant participants to get involved with her research project, VoicePath. You can access the CTTM self-assessment survey here: qualtricsxmcwrdhddsw.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_...
And provide direct feedback to Dr Aline Larroyed via her email address: aline.larroyed@dcu.ie
Aline Larroyed’s Research Ireland-funded project will build on the crisis translation maturity model (CTMM) co-designed with stakeholders described in our paper by taking a human rights perspective. Aline will further test and refine the CTMM, notably for stakeholders in Ireland and Brazil.
It was great to have the chance to work on this with so many great stakeholders who work at the coalface of crisis and community issues.
The open-access paper and model are at this link: incontextjournal.org/index.php/in...
There are things we can do. They probably won’t be perfect solutions, but we can keep getting better. And that’s the idea behind the model. It can help us assess how ready we are and give us some direction to be more prepared.
We hope that people will see and use it in that spirit.
We all share a collective responsibility—and we all benefit collectively—from whole community crisis preparedness. Language and culture don’t have to be barriers to us looking after ourselves and looking after each other.
With Pat Cadwell, Sharon O'Brien, Aline Larroyed, we wrote a paper about a model to help organisations achieve better multilingual crisis communication, co-designed with stakeholders from several organisations. We don’t see this model as a final product - it’s something to test / adapt / improve.
Delighted to be able to share some details about our collaboration with Netflix in this exciting initiative on Translation and Adaptation for Dubbing!

What do you think of #subtitles?
We want to hear your opinion!
The UK #Subtitling #Audience 🎬 Survey is collecting information on #viewing habits and #perceptions of subtitled media. It should take about 10 minutes.
We would love to hear from you 😊
