for example, I'm the kind of person who wants to change everything to work best for me, and windows just doesn't cut it for that use case, and that's fine, but not everyone needs that.

for a lot of people it's pretty good, but most people need more than just the open source alternatives and a stable PC.

from my experience, I feel like linux wasn't originally meant to be for everyone. People have tried to do that, and some fairly well, but unless something dramatically changes it will never be a "plug and play" thing (e.g. big companies like adobe developing their software for it).
