That's not to say that the existence of GLP-1s are directly making people more bigoted in their anti-fatness. But their marketing relies on extremely anti-fat tropes, floods the airwaves with anti-fat messages, and sends the message that anti-fatness is not just pro-health, it's morally righteous.

When we talk about the ~ozempic discourse~ it's easy to think about that as a kind of broad social or marketing pressure that's applied equally to everyone with a body.

I’m not against GLP-1s when it comes to treating conditions. I’m against the framing of fatness as a condition that needs to be treated.

We don’t have proof that fatness *causes* health issues. we DO have evidence that fat people get poorer quality CARE bc of WEIGHT STIGMA.

Of course! How can they sell GLP1s at $1000 a pop if thin isn’t the ideal?

We can’t say that fatness or “obesity” causes poor health when fat people don’t even get the same quality healthcare as our thin counterparts! But we do and why? Because it makes a few people very very rich. Systemic anti-fatness is a CAPITALIST issue as well as a sociological one.

Capitalists don’t benefit from making us fat.

They benefit from making us believe that avoiding fatness is how we stay healthy.

Not through Medicare for All, not by hiring more doctors and nurses, investing in research, making life more affordable… those are not profitable. But fatphobia is.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but cops are not allowed to shoot people just because you didn't do what they said.

That is called murder when they do that.
