Carnalis book in a tree with blooming white flowers
Inspired by the #SilentHill video game series and other survival horror games, films like Session 9 and Ju-On, and the works of #CliveBarker. The Nowhere Complex is my first stand alone novel. A true one and done.

Ah, you're far too kind, Polly! Means a lot coming from you. You're a great writer
This kid (hey, he’s young) has a mighty career ahead of him. He’s young, he’s talented, and he’s a fantastic storyteller. I hate people like that.
A short, squat white lighthouse on rocks, surrounded by water. A road bridge crosses over from outside the frame of the photo and passes behind the lighthouse.
In what (I hope!) will be the first in a series of events taking To the Lighthouse *back* to Skye, Bethan Roberts and I will be leading a workshop in Portree on Tues 5th May, reflecting on how Woolf's novel resonates with sustainability, housing, and tourism today atlasarts.org.uk/programme/to...

Hideaway (Brett Leonard, 1995)
ICYMI: @mikethorn.bsky.social and I interviewed the brilliant @cassidymcfadzean.bsky.social on the latest episode of @craftworkpod.bsky.social. We spoke at length about collecting pieces of lore, bringing levity to fiction, being "on thin ice" with our devices, and much more.

The Green Ray (Éric Rohmer, 1986)
“Why me? Why not me?” We get so old while feeling young. How does one navigate the unknown and the known, the lived and the unlived? Is that when we finally grow up, when we reach this hinterland and choose a mask, a demon, or a poppet to provide us with words we haven’t been able to speak? Or is it instead when we put them down as playthings and begin to fill out, to occupy space between others and within their homes and lives, and become our own territory? Maybe none of it is ours to decide. The naive and insouciant narrative voice belies a darkness with teeth. Deceptively simple. Lovely.
Many thanks to @kymiller.bsky.social for this thoughtful review:
I'm in the mood for 'old-school' horror.
I've moved James Herbert and Shaun Hutson back up the TBR Pile of Doom.
Who else would you recommend I add?
Exciting news: my poetry chapbook Thorns: A Book of Poems will drop on May 1 on Amazon and Barnes and Noble, featuring exclusive cover art by surreal artist Welderwings! Sign up for my email newsletter (link below) for further updates and sneak previews! 🥀✨

Shocked & sad to learn about the passing of the great
@thomastessier.bsky.social. Miriam & I were scheduled to interview him later this month for Craftwork. He & I had been exchanging emails about his friendship with Peter Straub a couple weeks ago.
Sincerest condolences to his friends & family.
First look at Sophie Thatcher in Nicolas Winding Refn's new film ‘HER PRIVATE HELL’.
The film follows a woman searching for her father as a strange mist engulfs their city and unleashes an elusive deadly presence.
Check out the latest episode of @craftworkpod.bsky.social.
@miriamricher.bsky.social & I chatted with the great @cassidymcfadzean.bsky.social about cacophonies of voices, mercurial relationships with phones, Gordon Lish heads, and more.
