I know I'm always harping on about this but it really is corrosive to public life that our major media institutions are run by people who do not know how evidence works and cannot distinguish between a real social trend and something their algorithm feeds them on tiktok.

“We laid off half our staff because AI.” No, you did that. Stop pretending otherwise. Take ownership of your leadership decisions.
Social media and group chats have microwaved the brains of the ruling and media class. They set that shit to POPCORN and let it go until it smelled like burning.
“AI as a Fascist Artifact”

> And here again “AI” shares a core idea of fascism: Both are based on the destruction of solidarity and labor power in order to cement the totalitarian control about the centers and sources of power.
Hi I wrote about the making of classic platformerChuckie Egg and talked to its creator Nigel Alderton. Please give it a read as I want to show there’s an audience for this gaming history stuff 🙏

if this polling result surprises you, i am issuing emergency guidance for you to touch grass immediately
"Are we really expected to believe that, despite their lives of excess, they're secretly miserable people for whom no amount of power can make up for the fact that, deep down, they know they've utterly failed as human beings?"
The decisions lawmakers make now on AI will impact working people for the next 50 years — and whether or not we have a future that belongs to all of us, not just big tech.
That’s why 80% of Americans want AI guardrails — to protect their jobs and rights.
⚠️ Blaming the Left was the least effective messaging for motivating Democratic voters:
flipping through a proof of yet another book from a somewhat well known liberal voice diagnosing “where the left went wrong” and i’m struck, again, by the fact that a large part (if not most) of the liberal commentariat simply does not believe that the political right has agency.
We need a labeler here that lets everyone know.
ACTUALLY WENT TO THE 2026 WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENTS DINNER
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
full agreement here. we need to start pushing back against AI in our human spaces but it’ll need to be a coordinated effort. and Gen AI needs to cease, full stop.
In the same manifesto, Palantir's owners argued that we need a national military draft, that soft power is over, and that we were too hard on Germany and Japan after World War II. I don't think that company should be allowed to exist anymore.
"Infinite patience" is not a quality ingredient for a good education, nor is it something we should continue to extend to the education "revolutions" of Sal Khan. biblioracle.substack.com/publish/post...
That Yale report on what's wrong with U.S. college saw some trees (high cost, unfair admission, etc.) but missed the forest: the 60-year right-wing crusade to undermine higher ed, from slashing budgets to stifling speech
How to really fix college. My new column www.inquirer.com/opinion/yale...
What's crazy for me is that student quality is bifurcating rapidly. I've been teaching on-and-off since 2018 and while it's always been the case that classes were 1/3 serious kids and 2/3 just along for the ride, the best students are better than they've ever been while the worst are just abysmal.
There’s a reason Republicans don’t constantly shit on their own voters and that’s because it is an abysmal strategy for winning elections
A lot of people are still in the denial about how much the median Democratic voter, the median Democratic volunteer, and the median Democratic activist has shifted on a variety of issues. Well here's the handpicked candidate of Chuck Schumer being booed, about Gaza, at the Dem convention.
Just a thought: How about we stop shaming the poor for buying things that may not be essential, and start shaming the rich for making a profit off things that are essential?
leftists are my greatest adversary because they are destroying america destroying america or being rude to you online? being rude to me online

i support whichever candidate will vow to eradicate palantir and its owners

We often talk about the “quality” of a service like this as a technical or objective measure - but, by far, the more important thing is that a therapist is acting in your interests - something AI can’t know or do.

Wrote about Palantir and Alex Karp's whiny bullshit. GROW UP DUDE.

Look, for my money the absolute game changer technologies right now are batteries and biosciences, not statistically modeling a mid conversation, but you do you.
A frog in a rowboat reading a book while a fish in the water is also reading a book. The caption at the top reads "It's a Whole Great Big Fun Thing"
A fifteen drawer card catalog with some drawers pulled out and Library of Congress literature in the drawers and on top.
It is National Library Week and the Library of Congress has done a cute nationwide thing with old card catalogs highlighting a lot of their core programs. I'm partial to their "Free to Use and Reuse Sets" but I'm sure we've all got our faves. 📚

Yes, the fact that I'm attending the White House Correspondents Dinner might SEEM like a supine gesture of complete deference to the insane dullard who demands total obedience from the press, BUT that's until you see the secret message I have on my pocket square
“This has never happened before,” one government employee tells WIRED. “I have never gotten a message like this from anyone.”

Tim Curry in Clue
Tim Curry in The Three Musketeers
Tim Curry in Muppet Treasure Island
Happy 80th birthday to Tim Curry who has always, *always* understood the assignment.
