What I Wish(ed) my Adoptive Parents Had Known Recently, I was asked by Simon Benn, a fellow adoptee and podcaster who is compiling a book: “What's the one thing you wish your adoptive parents had done differently?

Didn't want to post yesterday. Too many "things" going on between RL and the world. This was my adoptive dad. He served during the Korean War for 2 yrs in the US Army. I wanted to put out my flag out yesterday, but couldn't. Today, tho, I celebrate HIM. I wonder what he'd think of the world today.

www.amazon.com/stores/Paige... There's a BIG difference between learning about adoption and learning about being adopted.

Wild Study Finds Your Name Has an Incredible Effect on Your Face Humans have an incredible ability to guess a person's name simply based on the appearance of their face.

www.sciencealert.com/wild-study-f... So how does this apply to adopted people who have had their original name changed?

One of my (birth) sisters passed away yesterday. I hate cancer.

Before I knew my biological family history, I used to wear black on St. Patrick’s Day in protest of sealed adoption records.

I tend to use “birth” or “bio” mostly. I go with the flow though if someone prefers a different term.

I'm caregiver for my 94-y-o adoptive mom. It's a big job even tho she lives in a facility w good care. Her phys needs r looked after; not always emotional needs (in part her choice due 2 refusals). She expects ME 2 b all that. Impossible. I'm burned out being her servant, but neglect =not an option.

So you must've had some close-enough matches to find success?

As progressive as Calif is in so many other ways, it is sad that they cannot open their eyes to the adoptee cause issue(s). Glad you got your info regardless. How did you do that?

I have a brief note on stenographer's notepaper saying what I ate. I could have been in more than one foster home for all I know. I was born premature, spent time at the hospital before going to foster care.

1962...I grew up believing my records were closed forever. My A-parents also believed this. Apparently the records were only closed until I was an adult, so I got that info in 1987 and began my search.

I agree! I found it all the healing I needed. I will prob never know about the time I spent in foster care as a baby before adoption, but I have all my other info, so I am good. However, if I could find out anything about my 12 months in foster care, I would welcome that opportunity.

It's there in the sequel but a bit also in the 1st book. Reunion now for 35+ years...It's a work in progress, but basically all good. We have been together longer than we were apart at this point.

I rarely post my writing on FB, Insta, etc. b/c my adoptive family members may or may not "get it" re my memoir(s) about being an adoptee. They prob think they're being talked about more than me explaining experiences from the POV of an adopted person. (They prob have not read the books, so...)
