On the topic of #landback a piece reflective of ancestral connection to land.
You cannot be missing something that is inherently a part of you.

digging up more photos 🫶🏽 i believe these were taken during the end of the Guatemalan civil war (genocide), 1989.

i was removed by my university’s payment plan. had to spend money on textbooks that aren’t eligible for reimbursement for low-income students. can’t participate in extracurriculars because it requires dues. i can’t afford to live but i still have to go to class and deal with it.
looking through some family archives.
this is my great-aunt in tribal regalia. the specific regalia in this photo has been passed down and continued to be worn by the newer generation of my family.
makes me so grateful that our ancestry was documented and preserved so well by my family.

i have a class in 7 hours and haven’t done the assignment. i feel your pain 🤣😞
🚨 🚨 🚨 HOMEWORK 🚨 🚨 🚨
The email address for federal workers to inform on their colleagues is DEIAtruth@opm.gov.
Would be a real shame if folks flooded that inbox, rendering it useless.
that being said, if you’re an indigenous artist, professional, creator, etc., let’s keep supporting one another especially when a platform that gave us an opportunity to share information and earn additional income has been taken away ✊🏾🪶
i just lost my indigenous following base from the tiktok ban 🫠 all the culture i’ve shared and received, gone.
being the only indigenous student in the class is tough, but also a lesson of speaking up and existing in a space that my family wouldn’t have been accepted in years ago. to live so indigenously in this day and age is a blessing i won’t take for granted 💕
back on campus, no more delicious food from family 💔
I've gone 9 months without a hot water heater, fridge, or stove, & I am significantly behind on bills...
It's at a point I eat once a day at most & I can't afford my medications...
GOAL: $1658

my city is in flames but i still have to show up to lectures because colleges love profit over safety 🙂 thank you America!
i am happy to share my language and culture— if you get to know me. not to strangers who i barely met who think my culture should be displayed to them the moment they demand.
to white people who ask me to teach them my tribal language: my family spent generations trying to preserve a language that could’ve died, why are YOU entitled to learning it from me?
FINISHED MY FIRST SEMESTER OF COLLEGE 🥳
this was such an interesting read 🙏🏽 thank you for sharing
i must be missing something the transcripts in between— the medium connecting the elite to the common. am i missing something? your words have been translated into nothing but static. i wonder, was that message made for me? or did it manifest as its own self fulfilling prophecy?
some accidental poetry while studying, based on “Domination and the Arts of Resistance: Hidden Transcripts” by James C. Scott for my Black Cultural Arts class :)
i post more poetry on my instagram: @jobanthologies

wait that sounds so interesting. may i read it ?
almost done with finals week :,) i’ve written 9 papers so far, onto 2 more and im free !
this is so incredibly beautiful 🩷
the poem is displayed on a google doc. the title is “metropolitan hell (i want a walkable city)” smoke penetrates your lungs deep down in the big city. don’t you know within the cracks and slivers, you will break free? as long as the trees live, wherever you go, there is dirt underneath the concrete.
i know i’m a fairly small account but i write poetry on instagram! please go follow @jobanthologies if you want to support an young indigenous poet :) here’s a short poem i wrote about nature 🌱 [alt text provided]
this is so beautiful 🫶🏽🤎
i have to study for finals and write papers because i decided to be an ambitious native girlie T_T
wrote a paper on MMIW/MMIP a couple days ago. i have to study up on some readings and discuss the affects of trump’s prospective foreign policies and its effect on developing countries
#NativeSky all this sad white college food makes me miss the food back at home. can't wait for winter break so I can snuggle up in my chalina and eat tamal colado and tacos 🤧
K’iche’ here 🙋🏽
i totally agree with you. i used the term outdated for lack of better word when i confronted my professor (despite extremely nervous) about using the term. while i do have some friends who are fine with referring to themselves as indian, i am not comfortable myself, which i made clear then.
