If you get the chance to visit in winter when it's overrun by elephant seals, I highly recommend!

I think my fundamental beef with crypto-maximalists is that their guiding principle is, in practice, "look how many new things we can add Money to", whereas my personal mission is to expand the set of things that can be done without involving money at all

This is our newest foster kitten, Bones (named after Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan). Please understand that my feed is about to become nothing except how adorable this kitten is.

This kind of smart, walkable, mixed-use urbanism is illegal to build in most American cities

Post this at anyone who says words can't be violence:
"... an announcement of the final stages of our decades-long passage into the Information Age, a paradigm shift that the classic liberal firewall between word and deed (itself a product of the ... Enlightenment) is not likely to survive intact."

It's the pinnacle of libertarian "you are what you own" shitheelism that the devs, high on their "usernames are domain names" supply, thought it was more important to block names that look like phishing than names that contain actual abuse

It's very very good, and then "Siren Queen" blows it out of the water -- same vibes, but no longer constrained by the plot beats of Gatsby, Nghi Vo really gets to shine

Ah yeah. The bsky devs do have the ability to trace invite trees, and have mentioned vague plans to use invite trees to inform trust scores, but I'm not aware of any instance in which they've been used for a moderation decision so far.

1. Yes
2. Who knows? Social dynamics are wild and hard to predict. But it's certainly not going to *encourage* any but the most obstinate trolls, imo

It's saying that it mutes them, but doesn't *block* them (it's using the words "account" and "user" interchangeably, the key difference between the two clauses is "mute" vs "block").
