This is your introduction to the "corporate wasteland". It’s a desolate stretch filled with rusted billboards, branded logos, and old petrol stations. We wanted this area to feel like you’re walking through a graveyard of empty promises.

Thanks and good question! Some people have mentioned this before, but not really. The starter outfit will likely go through more revisions before release 😊
Screenshot from an X.com post by @RedThreadGames. The post reads: "We're no longer on X but there are still plenty of ways to keep up with the studio and stay connected! Find all of our links here: https://www.redthreadgames.com/links"
We've finally said farewell and good riddance to "X" and to our 10K followers — many of whom are Excellent People. I wish we'd left sooner, and I hope other studios + creatives do the same. It's a deeply toxic place, and we need to build better communities, if we hope to turn the tide.
This image from the video game Draugen showcases a serene, atmospheric vista of a Norwegian fjord, highlighting the game's "Fjord Noir" aesthetic. Visual Composition and Landscape * Central Fjord: A large, calm body of blue water dominates the lower-left and center of the frame, disappearing into a hazy, misty distance. * Towering Mountains: Massive, steep mountains rise sharply on both sides of the fjord. The peaks are rugged and partially covered in patches of white snow. * The Village of Graavik: On the right side of the image, a small, dark wooden stave church—a classic piece of Norwegian architecture—sits atop a grassy hill overlooking the water. This is a central location in the fictional village of Graavik. Flora and Atmosphere * Autumnal Foliage: The foreground and the slopes near the church are populated with birch trees featuring vibrant golden-orange and yellow leaves, indicating an autumn setting. * Misty Lighting: The sky is a pale, washed-out yellow-grey, filled with soft clouds and low-hanging mist that clings to the mountain faces. * Color Palette: The scene uses a striking contrast of warm autumnal oranges and purples against the cool, pale blues of the water and snowy mountains. Mood and Detail The lighting is soft and diffused, creating a serene yet somber and isolated mood that reflects the game's themes of mystery and solitude. The entire scene is viewed from a high vantage point, emphasizing the vast scale of the natural world compared to the small human settlement.
This image from the video game Draugen depicts a serene, high-altitude landscape in 1920s rural Norway, a setting central to the game's "Fjord Noir" mystery. Visual Composition The scene is a medium shot taken from a low angle on a rocky, uneven slope. The terrain is a mix of dark grey stone and patches of olive-green grass. In the mid-ground, a lone brown goat stands on a rocky ledge, facing right and adding a touch of life to the isolated environment. Key Landscape Features * Mountains and Mist: In the background, a massive mountain towers under a pale, overcast sky. The peaks are dusted with snow and partially obscured by soft, low-hanging white clouds and mist. * Autumnal Foliage: To the right, several birch trees with slender, white trunks are in full autumn bloom, their leaves a vibrant mix of golden-yellow and deep orange. Sparse branches with similar leaves frame the upper left corner of the image. * Floral Accents: A diagonal band of magenta-colored heather or wildflowers cuts across the center of the slope, providing a sharp contrast to the muted earthy tones of the rocks. Atmosphere and Palette The overall mood is peaceful and still, yet carries a sense of "hauntingly idyllic" solitude characteristic of the abandoned village of Graavik. The lighting is soft and diffused, creating a cool atmosphere where the warm oranges and pinks of the flora pop against the cold blues and greys of the distant mountains.

Worldbuilding is at the heart of Dustborn. Here’s a look at concept art for three locations, by the brilliant Jeffrey Chew 💛
I'm always encouraged to see people discover, play, and (hopefully) enjoy Dustborn on their own, after everything, without the dissonance and baggage. Love it, hate it, be conflicted — the honest emotional response is why we keep doing this, even when it feels Sisyphean.
Red Thread Games is 13 years old! Like with any teenager, there have been growing pains and great moments too.
We’re heading into 2026 with cautious optimism. Nothing is guaranteed, but there are real reasons to feel hopeful about where things are going.
Thank you for being here. Happy New Year 💛
It's almost 2026 and we're blogging like it's 2006! As 2025 winds down, we look back on the year that was and ahead to the year to come.
