Exactly this.

Staff were and continue to be, profoundly affected by the Covid pandemic. Not least because they have never been allowed the time and support to process it.

That's where we come in. For free confidential counselling/support: frontline19.com

If you’ve ever been cared for by a nurse, doctor, paramedic…

This is your moment to care back.

Because saving the helpers isn’t optional.
It’s survival.

If we don’t take care of the people who take care of us…
who’s left when we need them most?

At Frontline19, we see the reality behind the headlines every single day.

The exhaustion.
The trauma.
The quiet breaking points.

And the lives saved when support comes at the right time.

Let us be clear: You cannot pour endlessly from a human being and expect them not to run dry. This isn’t about weakness. It’s about capacity.

We learned over 100 years ago, what trauma does to the human mind. So why are we still designing systems
that ignore it?

Different war.
Same human nervous system.

In WW1, they called it shell shock.

Today?

Burnout.
PTSD.
Moral injury.

Standing at bedsides.
Holding hands as people died alone.

Making impossible decisions in impossible conditions.

And still…
“Keep going.”
“Be resilient.”
“Don’t let the side down”

We don’t need more heroes. We need systems that don’t destroy them.

In World War I, we punished soldiers for breaking. We called it cowardice. We didn’t understand trauma.

A century later…

We clapped for healthcare workers. Called them heroes. And then built a system that broke them anyway. 1/5🧵

Today's NHS Staff Survey results provide uncomfortable (though sadly unsurprising) reading. The scale of low morale & burnout is alarming and must be urgently addressed by govt.
NHS staff deserve better.

Happy #InternationalWomensDay to all the fabulous women working so hard in all the varied roles across UK healthcare.

With around 70% of the workforce being women, healthcare would collapse without their hard work and dedication.

We hope they can take a moment to feel proud today - thank you 💙

How do you heal from healthcare-related cPTSD in the UK when the organisation you are being told to turn to is the one that caused cPTSD? This is not a rhetorical question.

Just like with so-called Corridor Care, burnout amongst doctors (and other HCPs) is now basically normalised.

Govts throughout the UK must address systemic issues.

You cannot run a health service by sacrificing the health of those keeping it afloat.

This is the unseen cost of caring.
The emotional load no rota ever shows.

Alarms. Voices. Footsteps. Fear.
An assault on every sense.

And the staff?

They don’t leave when it’s overwhelming.
They don’t get to step away when it’s too much.

They do this shift after shift, carrying everyone else’s pain while quietly swallowing their own. 2/5

This was Christmas Eve.

My elderly Dad sat in a hospital corridor.
Not a ward.
A corridor.

Around him
mental health crises,
pregnancy complications,
people with dementia,
sepsis,
and a prisoner under guard.

It’s loud.
Chaotic.
Relentless.

It was great to contribute to this very important piece by Skye Gregory for @frontline19.bsky.social

"Govt must commit to a proper in house support service which offers meaningful intervention via self referral, and not leave charities to pick up the pieces."
