🔴#RDC Selon #actualitecd le #M23 a pris le contrôle ce mercredi de #Nyabibwe au #SudKivu. La localité se trouve à 70km de l'aéroport de #Kavumu et 100 km de #Bukavu
Having taken control of key parts of #Goma (perhaps still a little early to talk in absolute terms), M23 and allies are now progressing in South Kivu, reducing distance to #Kavumu airport where important contingents of FARDC and Burundian forces have been concentrating recently.
The risk of urban fighting in #Goma that many were afraid of is at least partly materialising, notably downtown around Quartier Volcans (near Rwanda border) and Himbi (further west in town. Sustained SALW fire in various other locations. Several instances of looting too.
This morning, #Goma emerges in limbo with an unclear, highly dynamic situation. A wealth of footage circulates (mostly unverified), showing either M23 and Rwandan forces on one side, and FARDC and wazalendo on the other. Skirmishes are underway in various parts of town.
We are following the deteriorating situation around Goma and collecting information from:
-Sake/Nzulo axis
-Kibumba/Kanyamahoro axis
-Minova peninsula
-Goma City
-Lubero territory
-Other areas currently under M23 control

The most recent #M23 (AFC) communiqué calls on #Congo troops to lay down arms within 48h and for UN troops to take neutral stance. Sources on all sides say move onto #Goma within the next 2 days is among possible scenarios. Security Council has called emergency meeting for Monday.
Laden with just the possessions they can carry, thousands of displaced people have reached the outskirts of the city of Goma in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, fleeing a rapid M23 rebel advance that has taken more territory than ever before reut.rs/3CgqIkd
The #M23/RDF have now taken Sake, a strategic small town just 25 kms from Goma. Experts have dismissed Goma as a potential target so far, but this conflict has taken proportions no one foresaw even 6 months ago. #DRC
At the second attempt...! Nonetheless relieved about it - have enjoyed the stories about K-pop stars feeding protesters! We'll have to wait and see what the court says...
Hundreds of thousands of Koreans outside the National Assembly broke out in cheers after the vote passed. People crying, singing, hugging out here, balloons flying, absolute celebration.
Incredible moment: Half the chamber is now standing up, and the opposition parties are chanting the names of every conservative party member who is not in the chamber (which is everyone but one), demanding they return to vote on the impeachment bill.
Wow, only one conservative lawmaker is in the chamber: Ahn Cheol-soo. Impeachment looks to be headed for failure by boycott.
Iconic shot:
Good resource.
BREAKING: South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol says he has ordered the withdrawal of troops and will formally lift the martial law.
Hundreds of infuriated people took to the streets, surrounding the National Assembly complex in Yeouido, western Seoul, after martial law was declared by President Yoon Suk Yeol on Tuesday night.
It took only ~2.5 hrs for the National Assembly to gather a majority of members (190 of 300) and generate a unanimous vote (190 of 190) to vote down the emergency martial law. The law says the president "shall comply" with parliament's vote, but doesn't specify a time frame.
President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law late on Tuesday evening. Just two hours later, a majority of Korean lawmakers voted to overturn Yoon's decision despite attempts by police and the military to stop the vote. Here's the situation so far
BREAKING: The South Korean National Assembly could vote to revoke the martial law with a majority vote of its 300 lawmakers, and 190 lawmakers just voted to lift the martial law. Now the question is whether Yoon will actually lift it, as required by law.
Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared emergency martial law against "antistate forces" Tuesday night in an unannounced press conference.

By contrast, I'm inundated with articles about Han Kang by Google, from Korean, American and British press.
Enjoyed giving our Y12s a lecture on 'What's the point of school?' today.
We reviewed 6 philosophical positions about the point of school, took an initial poll of their positions, then I explained why I was an essentialist (although with progressive aims), before we took another final vote.
- Cognitive load is not a neutral factor, context matters.
- "easy" tasks are not always low-effort if students lack interest in the topic.
- Specifically, low motivation (disinterest) can increase cognitive load due to the need for motivational self-regulation. www.mdpi.com/2227-7102/14...
I am really enjoying it! I found these books from 1969 with the sentence method, and a "phonic" approach...
