I’ve reported this and been advised not to give my talk in London tonight. Honour killings & acid attacks do happen in the UK and they target Asian women who are seen as having too much freedom. Apologies to anyone who planned to attend the event later.

Salman Rushdie wrote a book poking fun at religion that led to having a fatwa put on him, but all I have to do to enrage these people is exist. For those who aren’t aware, “honour killings” do happen in the UK, and I should probably reconsider giving public talks.
I have a contact form on my website that’s meant to filter out abuse. Unfortunately it doesn’t work well. Anyway I thought I’d share the latest email I’ve been sent because I’m tired of people downplaying online abuse. It’s horrible. (Obviously they used a fake name and email)
🚨 Upcoming talk

Pleased that my new book has reached the top 20 in Amazon categories in the UK, US and Australia.
Energy is Life has been recommended by MPs from political parties in the UK, the Greens abroad, and even key environmentalists like Alastair’s.

Watched The Life of Chuck. Found it a bit slow paced, but enjoyed the storytelling & was pleasantly surprised by the homage to Carl Sagan. Discussion of the cosmic calendar, subtle quotes, & actual footage from Cosmos. Don’t know the story behind that, but thought it was a lovely touch.
“We’ve been so saturated with apocalyptic narratives for the last decade… What’s he’s done is create an opportunity to pivot away from this idea - that maybe the future isn’t something to fear, rather it’s something to be figured out” - Ryan Gosling on Hail Project Mary
Go see it on the big screen!
Definitely - the film missed a lot of the detail, which is understandable for an adaptation, but for anyone who wants to understand more about the theory development etc they will still benefit from reading the book.
It was wonderful! I thought it did justice to the book, while avoiding the negative side of the story. Also surprisingly funny in places. No spoilers, but if you watch it, tell me if you caught the Flight of the Navigator vibe. Intentional or not? No idea, but I loved it. Watch it at the cinema!
It’s time 🎦
I had the pleasure of speaking to Michael Shermer on his podcast. We covered many topics, including my time in Extinction Rebellion, energy poverty, the “overpopulation” myth, and my new book “Energy is Life.”

“I don’t think Tourette’s is the problem. The problem is we don’t know enough about Tourette’s.”
So much respect for this man. John Davidson. Absolute legend.
Watch this film. You’ll be moved, you’ll laugh, and you’ll learn something. I Swear.
Excellent news - UK govt will be implementing recommendations from the Nuclear Regulatory Taskforce report after it found an “overly complex” and “bureaucratic” system that has held back the industry. Impressed by how quickly this is moving.

Fantastic news! Cancer death rates in the UK have fallen to a historic new low.
“For cervical cancer, there has been a 75% drop in death rates since the 1970s, with the NHS cervical screening programme credited as having a big impact.”

I know, she’s getting a lot of backlash for this. It’s good that she changed her mind. If the response to moving toward a more rational position is hostility & ridicule, what’s the incentive for others do it? Easier to stay in the comfort of your anti nuclear community.
Reducing Europe's nuclear energy sector was 'strategic mistake' that increased volatile fossil fuel imports, says EU chief Ursula von der Leyen.

Which EU countries could reverse their nuclear energy phaseouts?
“Governments in Belgium and Italy are trying to lay out plans for a nuclear comeback, while calls to reverse Spain's phaseout remain stark.”

MPs have voted down a social media ban for under 16s. As @profsanderlinden.bsky.social argues in Nature Health, bans don't prepare future generations or empower youth, they only restrict autonomy. A better way forward is technology education & measured safeguards.

Apparently I’m a “shill” for writing this book. I agree - I’m a shill for human progress & flourishing. Energy poverty is a war on human dignity, and abundant clean energy is the solution. Environmentalism got this wrong, forgetting that Energy is Life.

Another good one!
