This line may win the Internet today:
"Additionally, discovery means, to put it in very precise legal terms, that The Atlantic’s legal team gets to crawl up Patel’s ass."
As we all await Kash Patel's eleventy trillion dollar lawsuit against The Atlantic, let's spend a little time with his wonderweasel lawyer Jesse Binnall

Do they not teach tort law at the University of Richmond School of Law?
😯😯 Absolute blockbuster reporting by the NY Times.
Even if you find legal stuff arcane and confusing, it's a must read if you want to understand one of the main reasons for where we are.
Another blow to the Court's credibility under Roberts.

From TechCrunch:
This recalls the time in 2017 when the Long Island Iced Tea company pivoted to the blockchain, prompting the stock to jump some 275% after the rebranding. That pivot didn’t pan out, as the Nasdaq stock exchange delisted the stock the following year after bitcoin fever died down.
It was a beaut. FWIW, hit reader mode on your browser after getting that notice and it's still there in all its glory.
Somehow, the bodycam footage of Alabama police arresting a Black pastor watering his vacationing neighbor's flowers makes the story even more surreal than the headline suggests. They keep threatening to cuff a man who is *actively spraying planter boxes the entire time*.
Excerpt fron New York Times showing "would not" comment instead of the mealy-mouthed "declined to."
Refreshing: No "declined to" BS. Say as it is: would not comment. (From the NYTimes abt transit bedbugs)
(Maybe use a name too, although these days I know with amorphous emails it can be a trickier. But it is a "spokeswoman," so that suggests an ID.)
Yeah, you'll probably PO someone. So what?
One take-away from this might be that social media usage has evolved w/r/t news. It still is a discovery vehicle for lots of people, but just getting the gist of things now is enough for more and more as the competition for tine/attention rises and as the news increasingly depresses.
Graphic of Nieman Lab analysis showing publishers using links on social media cluster at lower left, showing lower engagement.
Publishers, relying more on subscription models, want to drive traffic to their sites. But using links on social media postings to do that?
It may be hurting them.
Fascinating analysis by Laura Hazard Owen at Nieman Lab.

Same mob. New enforcer.
You know how Trump shouted face news and said CNN would be investigated over reporting that the Farsi version of Iran's 10 points included the right to continue nuclear enrichment?
See point 3 below
Point 3 here would seem to give lie to Trump's screaming fake news when the contents of tge Farsi version were reported.

Yikes.

If I was a member of the cabinet or Congress. I would be asking myself what I would say to my grandchildren when they asked, “what did you do when the president of the United States threatened to destroy a whole civilization?”
Looks like NASA found Geidi Prime.
xxxx eats carrion may now become one of my fave phrases. I can conceive of wider application.
But I hear Austria is a wonderful place to get away from it all at this time of year ...
