His advocacy helped spark a movement, & his legacy lives on in the continued efforts to restore and reconnect these important waters. We extend our deepest condolences to Scott’s family, friends, and all who were touched by his dedication and spirit.

Over the past six years, this work has advanced fish-friendly flood infrastructure, research, and collaboration across the region. Though it has been some time since we last worked together, Scott’s influence is enduring.
Alongside Scott & a dedicated group of local stewards, we helped raise the profile of this vital ecosystem. That early momentum contributed to the launch of our Connected Waters campaign & ultimately to securing a multi-million-dollar investment for the Resilient Waters project at MakeWay Canada.
Scott understood that outdated pump stations & floodgates were limiting the natural movement of water & fish, & he pushed for solutions. Katzie Slough was also deeply personal to Scott—a place of solace in his childhood that shaped his commitment to its restoration.
Scott’s passion & persistence first drew our attention to Katzie Slough, a 9 km channel off the Fraser & Pitt Rivers, significantly impacted by flood infrastructure. He was a tireless voice for this waterway, envisioning a future where it could once again support healthy, thriving salmon habitat.
In Memoriam: It is with a heavy heart we honour former Pitt Meadows resident & dedicated salmon advocate for the Katzie Slough, Scott Magri.

The future of salmon depends on transparency being a focus as the Pacific Salmon Treaty is renegotiated. We cannot make sustainable, data-driven decisions if one party continues to "block the light." Alaska must prioritize transparency over obstruction.

Our colleague Lina Azeez's op-ed in the Vancouver Sun, published just days before recent flood events in the Fraser Valley, was more timely than we could have predicted. Will recent events be enough for federal & provincial governments to act?

Did you know industries in B.C. pay a maximum of $2.25 for a million litres of freshwater?
As industrial development accelerates, watershed funding in B.C. has dropped significantly.
It's time to raise industrial water rates and reinvest in our watersheds.

If we don’t count salmon, we can’t manage them.
DFO budget cuts could undermine monitoring across BC. We stand alongside fishers, scientists, businesses and other conservation organizations to demand these essential programs remain intact.

They were fined. They were ordered to leave. So why is their equipment still in Lois Lake? 😡
After a $350k fine for illegal fish farming, the company was supposed to remove all equipment by Aug 31 — but we found the farm still in the lake during a recent visit.

Back in the ‘50s, “The Blob” was just a cheesy monster movie. Today, its real-world counterpart is no joke.
A growing marine heatwave is spreading in the Pacific, suggesting we could see a return of “The Blob”, which could have a devastating impact on wild salmon.
