Alongside Scott & a dedicated group of local stewards, we helped raise the profile of this vital ecosystem. That early momentum contributed to the launch of our Connected Waters campaign & ultimately to securing a multi-million-dollar investment for the Resilient Waters project at MakeWay Canada.

Scott understood that outdated pump stations & floodgates were limiting the natural movement of water & fish, & he pushed for solutions. Katzie Slough was also deeply personal to Scott—a place of solace in his childhood that shaped his commitment to its restoration.

Scott’s passion & persistence first drew our attention to Katzie Slough, a 9 km channel off the Fraser & Pitt Rivers, significantly impacted by flood infrastructure. He was a tireless voice for this waterway, envisioning a future where it could once again support healthy, thriving salmon habitat.

What is Alaska Trying to Hide? | Watershed Watch Salmon Society At the Pacific Salmon Commission, Alaska blocked transparency on intercepted salmon—raising urgent questions about missing data and treaty reform.

The future of salmon depends on transparency being a focus as the Pacific Salmon Treaty is renegotiated. We cannot make sustainable, data-driven decisions if one party continues to "block the light." Alaska must prioritize transparency over obstruction.

Opinion: Do we need another billion-dollar flood before B.C. acts? Flood strategy to help communities prepare for climate disasters has no funding and municipalities don't have tax base to pay for upgrades.

Our colleague Lina Azeez's op-ed in the Vancouver Sun, published just days before recent flood events in the Fraser Valley, was more timely than we could have predicted. Will recent events be enough for federal & provincial governments to act?

As industrial development accelerates, watershed funding in B.C. has dropped significantly.

Who is Afraid of The Blob? | Watershed Watch Salmon Society Another massive marine heatwave may be forming in the Pacific. “The Blob” could return, threatening salmon as warm waters endanger their survival at sea.

Back in the ‘50s, “The Blob” was just a cheesy monster movie. Today, its real-world counterpart is no joke.
