I’m a little choked up that he would bring them lilies, his mother’s flower. There’s such an aura of beautiful tragedy in this, the way it’s aged by the shadows and ‘ink stain’ atmosphere and he remains the light/youth/new in the portrait. The butterflies to symbolize the memories is brilliant! 😭
