Met my friend at a bookstore and she gives recommendations like this:
“It won’t change your life, but you’ll have a good time.”
“You’ll probably lose IQ points if you read _____, but then you can read ___ and get them back.”
Changing how I review books now.

I had an amazing read at the library today (wearing my stripey skirt in homage to Catherine O'Hara) and I have to say...I will never not love our librarians and people who get books in front of people. Our true heroes <3

Muslim Storytellers Collective
Portland's Regional Arts and Cultural Council graciously funded this project. I am so grateful to have been inspired during writing sessions with other Muslims nationwide in Literary Arts Yallah!...
The Muslim Storyteller's Collective received a RACC grant, alhamdulilah. It's mostly virtual, and includes a writing retreat, monthly craft sessions, local reading events and a publishing opportunity. Travel isn't covered, so better for writers in the PNW. www.niyyahwriting.com/muslim-story...

Rob Reiner either made your favorite movie, or made somebody you know’s favorite movie. If you’re a Californian, he’s also part of the reason you or your friends can get married. He has changed more lives for the better than this asshole commenting on him ever did.

I spent a lot of time (years) figuring out my process. I hope you find a way to get words on the page, butt in chair, submissions out the door!

Are you a plotter type ? I definitely am a discovery writer which makes choosing the length a bit more challenging - but can be part of the fun

I like that he’s a nod to a Poirot type character but far more enjoyable

My children were fighting over the last fave flavor of energy bar and the elder one just sighed and said, "We're going to have to fight later, gotta make the bus." And they just stopped, each grabbed a different flavor and went out the door. Going forward, I will also be scheduling my quarrels.

I did not open this and read it … but I had an immediate and visceral reaction that makes me want to write a companion guide: “How to not turn into a toddler when someone is doing well, corrects you, or shares their opinion.”

ALT: a man in a suit and tie is smiling .
For #kidlit writers. Yes, it's great to have tweens/teens at home for your MG/YA-- But they read your work while you sweat, then your only feedback is "It's good." And if you ask clarifying questions like, "What part was creepiest?" They'll give a long, thoughtful pause and say, "The whole thing."
