UW graduate student deported through SEA as protesters demand answers A union representing University of Washington graduate student workers says Kennedy Orwa’s student visa was rescinded without explanation.

Our PhD student Kennedy Orwa, who studies applications of AI to health care, was hastily deported today to Kenya along with his 13-year-old son without opportunity to speak to legal counsel.

King 5 reports that he held a valid visa that was rescinded without explanation.

I called my two U.S. Senators @kim.senate.gov and @corybooker.com along with my Representative @repbonnie.bsky.social to signal my outrage at the president's genocidal language and to urge they work with their legislative colleagues on his immediate impeachment.

Generally overwhelmed by the idea of posting anything at all on social media these days. This one seemed manageable.

I am pleased to report that the pizza at the newly refurbished DeLorenzo's The Burg on Sloan Avenue in Hamilton Township, NJ is every bit as good as I hoped it would be. Some things are different about the place, but that most important one stayed the same!

Captured in bright indoor lighting before a hessian pin board, a Great Horned Owl with wide-eyes and wet-plumage is cloaked in a white cloth. Spiked feathers radiate from his head in all directions, like a hairy durian, accentuating his look of shock and indignation. We may have found the true paragon of Owls in Towels.

Just finished reading The Once and Future Me by @melissadugganpace.bsky.social and enjoyed it immensely. The story was compelling & engaging all the way through. Like reading a mashup of Annalee Newitz and Philip K. Dick, riding that thin line between sanity and sci-fí. I highly recommend this book.

Imagine the reaction in the US if ~175 schoolgirls had been killed by a targeted Iranian missile. (Or anyone's missile.)

This is an atrocity.

Cartoon double panel. First shows a dog sitting at a table with a mug in a room that is on fire (the "This is fine" meme.) Second panel shows the dog saying, "So I have a book coming out."

This is a victory for academic freedom and education equity.

I regularly see people wondering how it's possible that there are so many musicians and writers and film makers and artists from a tiny nation like Iceland.

And the answer is really simple: State funding for art education and artists. I literally get a salary from the government to write books.

There is No Scientific Justification to Revoke the Endangerment Finding The U.S. EPA's decision to repeal the Endangerment Finding will limit the government's ability to regulate emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act.

As I say here, there is no scientific justification to revoke the engagement finding. In fact, over the last 15+ yrs, the evidence of how climate change affects our health has only grown. Higher risk of allergies, dementia, fertility, heart disease, and death: that’s what’s on the line. @nature.org

Just finished "God's Junk Drawer" by @peterclines.com and loved every word. I grew up as a Land of the Lost kid and this book honored that source material, and took further. Highly recommend! happening this morning in Minneapolis -- ICE agents drawing guns on observers. I reiterate again that it is only a matter of time before DHS kills more innocent people in Minnesota. Congress needs to shut this shit down right now.

I think a lot of us get hope wrong. Hope, I do not believe, is an emotion. In fact, hope makes space for lots of emotions to exist alongside it. You can DO hope scared, angry, sad etc...

Hope doesn't find us. We make hope through action and struggle. It's a practice of living and is re-made daily.
