The Trump admin is cutting funding for the Rural Energy for America program, putting solar projects on rural land in jeopardy. These projects help farmers & rural communities take control of their power, development, & finances. As one farmer said, "It's just been about freedom."

The USDA is creating an Office of Seafood to give industrial aquaculture more access to the USDA and expand the industry. The problem: aquaculture comes with the same harms as industrial animal ag. This is the time to make sure they are being regulated to protect workers, animals, and communities.
Most people don't realize that ag workers are excluded from many basic labor rights, including overtime pay and the minimum wage. This is just one example of ag exceptionalism. We need to address the racist origins of these laws and how they enable exploitation.
USDA's reckless policy of canceling grants for being "DEI" or "climate" related has devastating impacts on farmers and organizations across the country building a better food system. Our Deep Dive uncovers the mess: farmstand.org/case/deep-di...
For generations, USDA has shut out Black farmers from funding and programs. Now, it's cut the ILCMAP program that meant to help underserved farmers--all part of the Trump Admin's crusade against what it calls "DEI."

Meatpacking giants like Smithfield rely on immigrants to do backbreaking work in their plants—then stay silent when ICE shatters families and communities. Key reporting out of Milan, Missouri from @investigatemidwest.bsky.social
“They don’t want to shut the meatpacking plants down,” she said. “That would cost the meatpacking companies millions of dollars a day.” investigatemidwest.org/2026/04/08/a...
Herbicides like glyphosate are extremely dangerous to children's health. Yet US law allows kids as young as 12 to labor in fields where they are exposed to toxic pesticides.
Our latest blog highlights the toll that the industrial food system takes on children:
“We’re seeing the ripple effects of this blunderbuss approach.”
FarmSTAND's David Muraskin spoke to @insideclimatenews.org about how USDA's sloppy, illegal grant cancelations are impacting farmers across the country.
Big Ag has a stranglehold on every level of the beef market. Just 82 feedlots account for 35% of cattle slaughtered in the US.

We wish this was an isolated incident of DOGE carelessness at one agency. But as our case against USDA and DOGE shows, the Trump admin will target grants just for mentioning a handful of keywords. Dive into the documents here 🔗 farmstand.org/case/deep-di...
Shielding Monsanto from accountability benefits Monsanto’s shareholders, not farmers and our communities. We're among 15 groups urging the court to protect the health and dignity of the people who grow our food, not Monsanto’s profits.

Bright green FarmSTAND branded graphic. Headline: Filed. Text: Monsanto wants to be shielded from lawsuits over the health effects of its pesticides. They claim farmers are on their side. But farmer and farmworker groups are standing against their claims at the U.S. Supreme Court. Image: farmer on a tractor.

Quote: Monopolistic agriculture corporations and lobbyists claim to speak for America's farmers while lining their own pockets at the expense of the farmers and food workers who help fund our local economies. Instead of protecting billion-dollar companies, our government should be working on keeping family-scale farmers in business. Monsanto wants us to believe that their pesticides—and the health and environmental harms that come with them—are necessary for modern farming. 15 farmer and farmworker advocacy groups joined our amicus brief to say that's not true. They want accountability.

Illustration of five women farmworkers speaking on a panel at the 2024 Bi-National People's Tribunal on the Struggles of Farmworkers in North America. Behind them is a yellow circle with a quotation in the middle: "The movement -- that's the hero" - Esmeralda Lopez. At the bottom of the illustration, block letters read "NATIONAL FARMWORKERS DAY"
It's #NationalFarmworkersDay! We have been disheartened and disturbed by the revelations about Cesar Chavez sexually abusing girls and women within the UFW, and we applaud the bravery and integrity of Ana Murguia, Debra Rojas, Esmeralda Lopez, Dolores Huerta, and everyone who came forward. ✊🏾✊🏽✊🏿
Well put from @foodprintorg.bsky.social: “Finfish aquaculture essentially replicates the worst ideas of land-based factory farming and moves them to the ocean”
It’s not too late to stop Big Aqua before it repeats Big Ag’s harms. foodprint.org/blog/mara-act/
We call "biogas" what it really is — factory farm gas that entrenches the worst industrial animal ag.

“The harm caused by JBS management’s choices will remain with workers forever.”
FarmSTAND’s Hannah Wolf spoke to @thehaitiantimes.bsky.social about our lawsuit against JBS for exploiting and discriminating against Haitian workers.
“About 7 percent of America’s beef comes out of this single plant on a normal day. But now, thousands of workers—mostly foreign-born laborers from Haiti, Somalia, Burma, and Mexico—formed a picket line across the street.”
Key reporting from @thefern.org on the JBS strike

As FarmSTAND’s Kelsey Eberly explains on our blog, a racist system of "agricultural exceptionalism" has historically excluded farmworkers from overtime protections. Read more: farmstand.org/the-racist-r...
Overtime for farmworkers over 40 hours should be non-negotiable.
During this Farmworker Awareness Week, we stand with the Colorado Agricultural Workers’ Rights Coalition as they fight to maintain recently-won state overtime protections for farmworkers in that state.
Factory farming doesn’t just harm communities. It traps farmers, too.
