Those two ghouls being the most transparently "pick me" boys of the whole administration. They want so badly to be liked that they'll burn the world down while trying to make it how they wish it was.

Just heard an ad for an audio book in which the promoter said it's full of all the things you liked about young adulthood, including "change of hearts".

Audible, kindly die in a fire.

I always like to look at 2020 in financial graphs. Interesting.

Please support our union’s work toward a fair contract by NOT crossing our digital picket line! That means not visiting @ProPublica.org today, April 8.

(And please resume your support of @ProPublica.org all other days, we love the journalism we do!)

I'm sure he'll get a swift talking-to from his masters, Corporate Overlords, to put paid to that plan.

Go pick up a hobby. If the Internet dies, it wasn't worth keeping anyway.

I'm pleased to say my carving class has been doing very well lately, I (tentatively) have repeat students and more people buying tools, so maybe I've finally grown enough for people to notice. The point has always been to spread carving, not to make money.

Loneliness is also important. I have wanted my carving class to grow to be the little group of friends I had for 7+ years. I've learned that it's not an automatic thing, it was kismet that we had such a good group of regulars. All I've had for 3 years is teaching is a revolving door of new students.

Agency stood out to me because this was a woodcarving student of mine, and we feel that this is what any craft does for people: it gives you agency to effect change on your world, even if that's in a tiny and insignificant way. It's the same reason for gardening or painting figurines.

I will say that a friend told me about a basic tenet in psychiatry, a mnemonic that uses HALT:
Hunger, Agency, Loneliness, Tired. Before you solve mental health issues, you have to address all of those first.

I won't try to recap studies on concentration, self-esteem, depression and other mental health angles from too much social media. I'm sure my followers know all that anyway.

"Touch grass" became a phrase for a reason: it means get offline and check in with reality.

While I'm at it, allow me a soap box moment.

Look it was a good run but without sites with great community and content, the rest is brain rotting time wasting bullshit. Algorithms, misinformation and AI deep fakes have destroyed most reasons to spend time online and people feel this, even if they haven't consciously changed their behavior.

Okay so here’s my actual Bluesky-is-dying hypothesis:

The entire web is dying. Users aren’t going from BlueSky to another site (x/insta/threada/tiktok). Users are going to chatbots.

I know traffic to news sites has cratered (like 90%). My hunch is traffic to all the social platforms is down too.

This is so, so well-articulated.

But I confess there have been times I've remembered seeing something from a book and then remembered I only listened to the audio version, so I couldn't possibly have a visual memory.

Interesting! I don't entirely agree with this brief summary (haven't read the article), because if my logical brain has to take over concentration and decision-making, I stop hearing the audiobook.

I guess tabloids have always written complete fiction when it suits them, now we're just wasting precious resources to do it and there isn't even a writer being creative.

Refusing to accept big tech's AI-poisoned 'future of journalism' Humans, however flawed, are

New — I wrote about how journalists proudly using AI to help them write their stories obscures the deeply human process that makes journalism a societal necessity, and one that feeds the soul of those who create it.

Hope you’ll give it a read. I promise I wrote the whole thing.

Wiseman snapped the first photo on Thursday after the Orion spacecraft completed the translunar injection burn.

The image includes two auroras in the top right and bottom left.

And her momentum is not slowing any time soon, with a new HBO Max series adaptation of the Harry Potter books going into production this summer, expected to run for a decade beginning in late 2026 and mint a whole new generation of fans. Forbes estimates that Rowling could earn about $20 million per year for her involvement in the new series—one part of a wide-ranging deal with Warner Bros.—and she was "very, very involved in the process selecting the writer and the director," said HBO Max CEO Casey Bloys in November. One has to imagine she had the same input in casting the new pre-teen Harry, Hermoine and Ron, announced on Monday. When asked about Rowling's politics on an episode of The Town

J.K. Rowling is using her wealth attained from the Harry Potter series to create an organization dedicated to removing transgender people's rights "in the workplace, in public life, and in protected female spaces."

The author announced in a Saturday post to X, formerly Twitter, that she would be founding the J.K. Rowling Women's Fund, using her personal fortune. The website for the group states that it "offers legal funding support to individuals and organisations fighting to retain women's sex-based rights in the workplace, in public life, and in protected female spaces."

If you need help convincing people not to watch the new HP show, here it is. JKR will make $20m per year from the show, per Forbes. She also openly admits that she pours her fortunes into anti-trans activism, per Yahoo News. There’s a direct pipeline between HP and trans people’s suffering.
