This is a great book!
totally - my message was targeted at the many people I see who are putting their heads in the sand, and/or saying "AI can't do <x>" based on a bit of amateur prompting two years ago on GPT-4.
These are essential questions to be asking right now. Ignoring the power of these models (which are only getting smarter by the month) is a recipe for professional obsolescence for one's self and their students.
Really enjoyed this recent paper by @lampinen.bsky.social, partly because of the unusually clear and agreeable definition of "representation" - a term that is often philosophically fraught "Representation Biases: Variance Is Not Always a Good Proxy for Importance"

If you are collaborating with another researcher on a paper, it is now essential to discuss and agree on your AI usage policy before any writing gets done.

my definition would be: a dataset that includes the word "consciousness" in its description 😀
This looks like a great opportunity to do rigorous science on open consciousness datasets!
Looking forward to seeing many of you there in person or on Zoom!

How do we move social & affective neuroscience forward when funding is shrinking, costs are rising, and new challenges to research freedom?
The 3rd #SAN2026 preconference is a PI Summit on Funding and Resources
NIH is requesting comments on a new draft policy that may require human brain imaging data (and other data) from nih-funded research to only be shared via controlled access, & only with certain countries. I suggest neuroimagers read closely & submit comments by 3/18.

thanks @laurenatlas.bsky.social! We are working on a response from OpenNeuro, and I also know that the ABCD folks are working on something. There will also be high-level responses from major scientific/academic organizations. Hopefully we can have some influence as this policy would be devastating
