The three stages of life:
1. Too young
2. Too busy
3. Too old
An AI generated image of Jesus attached to a news story about how apparent Christians are chatting with a fake Jesus, completely unaware of their own Scripture
It’s _literally_ a false idol, folks.
Grab your early bird weekend pass for this year's @cymerafestival.co.uk before time runs out.
One of my favourite genre literary events in the writing year, and all the better for being nearly on my doorstep

On an unrelated note: dementia patients often lose the ability to keep their inner monologue to themselves, as well as losing the ability to filter private thoughts from public speech

"LLMs simply don't make mistakes like the ones you see here in this passage from Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy" is jokerizing

This is also true for most cultural artifacts - films, tv, music, literature, etc . Fan criticism is usually spot on, but their suggestions for how to fix it are almost always misguided
A bar chart showing sustained grown in the number of physics related jobs over the last 15 years. The caption reads "Physics-related roles account for over 1.85m jobs in 2020: 1 in 20 jobs"
1: UK employers need and want physicists.
@iop.org study found 1 in 20 UK jobs rely on physics-related knowledge. The demand for physics skills and knowledge is growing fast and is becoming ever harder to meet.
Conclusion: We need to train more physicists.

To echo @richardalexander.bsky.social ‘s point, STEM funding helps create jobs and support jobs across the knowledge sector
A very selfish point from the diaspora - the tech industry (esp. companies leveraging various facets of AI/optimisation/machine learning) crave STEM PhDs and postdocs. We are hiring like mad and have had enormous success hiring recent science grads/postgrads regardless of their specialism.

It is weird seeing essentially the same headlines I saw as a first year astronomy PhD student in 2007/2008 as STFC first came into being. Does nothing ever change?
