I don't know how to explain to the people who pop up when creatives complain about "AI" to say there are legit uses for it just how much they sound like someone saying "Well actually fire is used to make bread" when people are talking about an organized arson ring burning down their fucking houses

Whoops, The Tech Press Mythologized Another Unethical Asshole Lazy access journalism is pathologically obsessed with helping unremarkable, unethical weirdos cultivate elaborate supergenius engineer mythologies while covertly undermining the public interest.

over at the newsletter I wrote about Sam Altman and how the tech press is obsessed with mythologizing unethical assholes

I saw someone's claim of "I use it as a starting tool to generate ideas" and I cannot roll my eyes hard enough.
Brainstorming, idea exploration, and curiosity is literally part of the creative process and art making.

You're not an artist, you're a parasite.

And I think it's repulsive for people to use accessibility as a shield for why genAI makes the creative arts "accessible". I think it's repulsive for people who label themselves "artists" to claim it makes the most base human expression in existence, finally accessible to them.

I am really, really sick of it being assumed that I just "don't get it" or "don't see it" when I'm railing about how genAI is a garbage tool and openly criticize and refuse to use it.

No, actually, I understand it, and I think it's hot trash.

So, there's no such thing as "human-centric artificial intelligence."

Live-action remakes are just another side of the anti-intellectualism mindset, putting down animation as a lesser medium because people are incapable of reading past whats directly in front of them and dont see value in anything that doesnt resemble real life 1:1

Sucks how brave you have to be right now to take controversial stands like “Kids shouldn’t be in concentration camps.”

In support of this post, here are some extremely negative things that I expect to happen as a matter of course because of this.

As always, Black people and Black culture are exploited for growth and profit.

I tried to approach some of the sessions that featured AI with an open mind, but it was the same old schtick, and even presenters that didn't, used genAI images in their slides, which is just infuriating.

I have room for nuance and grace, but come *on*.

Still grossed out by the AI-positive sentiment experienced at #axecon. Only relieved that I wasn't the only one bordering outrage.

I'm so exhausted, trying to explain how harmful this technology really is, especially generative AI, and my concerns are almost always just handwaved away.

Not enough. This government sponsored crime syndicate needs to be abolished, and that is the bare minimum I can respect from any politician.

this can't be a real timeline.

There also needs to be an ongoing conversation about how environmental impact creates or exacerbates already existing disabilities. Data centers literally poison the communities around them, and tend to be poorly resourced to begin with.

Technology is not unbiased, and it is willfully obtuse to pretend that tools to "help" disabled and neurodivergent people will in fact be weaponized against us. Already has been.

It's irresponsible to pretend it is neutral and objective.

It's incredibly uncomfortable to hear the advancement of (irresponsible, invasive, and overall creepy) AI tools, for example, being celebrated, while ignoring the already very real world harm being perpetuated on already the marginalized.

So far, I've heard from some great speakers over informative sessions at #axecon. At the same time, I'm deeply disappointed and concerned at ablest rhetoric and tools being pushed under the shielding language of "accessibility".

Huckabee and Carlson are both white supremacists who endorse massive violence against non white people. They have tactical differences about who should get killed first.

you do not need to cosign either of them. you do not need to pretend Carlson is "right". He's not right.

I’m sharing this video again because people don’t really get what these data centers and ai are doing to our planet and our communities. Especially Black communities because they were strategically placed there.

I need you to listen to these people.
STOP USING AI. STOP SUPPORTING AI.

With the recent news I am deeply disappointed and disgusted.

Disney would be nothing without human artists and with AI or not they will continue to be nothing without human artists. For that reason I don’t think this will last. I will no longer accepting assignments or work based on Disney IP.
