The American promise of birthright citizenship is enshrined in the 14th Amendment. As the Supreme Court weighs this critical case, we must be clear: this guarantee is not up for political bargaining.
The Fifth Amendment says no person shall “be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.” Due process is a constitutional promise, not a citizenship reward.

In Indiana, it is not expected to affect the May 5 primary, and any change to mail ballot rules would require action from the state legislature. What this order does do is inject more chaos and confusion into our democracy.
On Tuesday, President Trump signed an executive order targeting mail-in voting, even though the president does not have the authority to unilaterally rewrite election rules.
Navy blue graphic with large white and light blue text reading, “The Constitution guarantees birthright citizenship. No president can change that.” The ACLU logo appears in the lower right corner.
The Constitution leaves no question. President Trump is in the wrong in his attempt to end birthright citizenship, legally and morally.
