@jpcoovert.bsky.social is consistently making some of my favorite stuff in the TTRPG scene, but he's really outdone himself with Keeper's Call. I ran this for my 6yo daughter, and with about 10 minutes of prep, I had this kid ENTHRALLED for an hour and half. Just ordered the physical zines.
It was nice to see X-Men back on the floor. I feel like it wasn't one of Stern's most well-received games, but it's one of my favorites. This was one I set the top score on for the month of April. I'm sure it won't stay that way, but it felt pretty awesome in the moment!
Got to play the new Pokemon pin by Stern last night. Super fun. I'm not even a huge Pokemon guy, but seeing as it's themed to the first generation, it hit me right in the nostalgia.
Just got home from playing pinball. I set the highest score for the month on several machines, and listened to Turnstile on the way home. Honest feel like I could run through a solid brick wall right now.
Book: Dune
Movie: Raiders of the Lost Ark
Album: Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
They never fail.
Here here!
Besdies...Ms. Pac-Man > Pac-Man. Both on 2600 and in the arcade.
A new upload of the incomplete film Wolfman vs. Godzilla has shown up on YouTube, so I know what I'm watching this weekend. ๐ youtu.be/GHBCzE825b8?...
I see no lies.
Godzilla stands before a massive fire after destroying an oil field, the text stating that he scorns "the advanced technology of the American government and corporation alike."
The hero we need AND deserve.
Since this year #FirstContactDay falls on Easter Sunday, let us rejoice in the Son of Vulcan who died to save us all, then rose again from the dead on the steps of Mount Seleya. #LLAP ๐
BEEEG YOSHI
At least 3 times a week.
That first season in particular holds up very well in comparison to other cartoons of the time.
I've got ideas for a board game based on the pizza delivery subplot from Spider-Man 2. Deliver your pizzas on time, protect pie integrity, but don't like the supervillains take over the city. Winner gets the admiration of Mr. Aziz and cookies from the girl next door. Not an April Fools, dead serious
And if jury rigging those powers together wasn't enough, the Gadget cards really take the madness over the top. They're just enough of an unexpected jolt to make the game truly sing.
If you've made it this far, thanks for hearing me out. I'm just loving this game and I needed to get it out there!
Even with Magical Athlete being available again, this game still earns its keep. The way you combine two character powers to create these Frankenstein's monsters of chaos is delightful. It takes the draw of MA and gives you a toybox of options and interactions to play with. Terrific stuff.
I played DC Breakout: Escape From Arkham Asylum by @gengelstein.bsky.social and family with my 8th grade group today. First time playing with a larger group and it was a BLAST. The kids, who are already Magical Athlete fanatics, loved it and requested it for next week.
Fresh arrivals! Very stoked on both of these!
DC Breakout is the only thing I've played all week.
CAN. NOT. WAIT to see what my buddy Hambone and co. have cooked up for Shadowdark. Count me in!
If this isn't the prime argument for keeping physical media around, I don't know what is.
I've lost a whole lot of interest in scripted narrative in board games, but Vantage is a 10/10 for me. What a mind-boggling accomplishment.
We're eating good as the kids say.
Shadowdark went over very well yesterday. The kids picked it right up (only prior RPG experience was Star Borg), they got into it, and made a couple rookie mistakes that, thankfully, cost nobody a character but made their point. They're learning. There might be hope for us yet.
Starting a Shadowdark campaign for a group of 8th graders today. Just put the finishing touches on the dungeon I wrote up for them and I am positively *jumping* to play.
Whirling Witchcraft (a game I love but this round was not great), Emberleaf, and Fliptoons.
The Iron Giant is the best Superman movie.
teaser image for Dune 3, except it's called Doug, and Paul and Chani are replaced with Doug and Patti
