Copy of a newspaper from June 1949 talking about Paris falling to the Nazi German advance
An article about Joseph Kennedy
More unusual finds in the loft included this copy of the Daily Mail (sorry) from Friday 14th June 1940
And lo and behold the patriarch of a certain well known American family. Just a little time before he resigned his post for reasons I would probably leave to better historians than I to elucidate
A newspaper parody of the Daily Mail with a senior Mail person with Hitler
A reprint of the very first private eye
Some interesting specials as well.
Not sure what to do with them all. Any ideas welcomed! My mum is moving and doesn't really want to take them with her.
A collection of old Private Eye magazines

Clearing out my mum's loft, my late dad had something of a collection of @privateeyenews.bsky.social mags, from the Kate 70s through to the mid 2000s.
Doesn't TH have the second highest percentage of households without cars? Like over 70% of residents do not have one?
Right, my new map and database of all #CrossBorderRail lines in Europe is online!
This blog post explains what I am trying to do:
crossborderrail.eu/new-borders-...
At the moment it is all rather provisional, so bear with me, but the idea is to have EVERY line mapped, and basic data available!
I was already a fan of Global Cycling Network videos for changing 🚲 gear cables etc. Turns out they are also 👍 on transport policy.
Bottom line: cycle lanes are unfair. But still much fairer - and healthier, economically and environmentally beneficial - than not having them.

4 frame street reporter comic. the reporter, off frame, asks someone waiting for the subway, with a dark long jacket, a gold and red scarf and round glasses : miss! any thoughts about the newest study showing that trans people's mental health deteriorates after starting gender-affirming treatment? she replies : kaltiala's paper didn't measure mental health deterioration. it measured how many trans people visited a psychiatrist after getting their diagnosis from the finnish gender clinic, which forces trans people to be screened extensively every 3-6 months during their treatment. this paper counts any visit to a psychiatrist, including when the patient is cleared of any issue, as a sign of "mental health deterioration". that metho- dological flaw is mentioned in the paper*, but that didn't stop any of these powerful anti-trans bigots to share it online. *erin in the morning : "Fact Check: New Finnish "Study" Does Not Prove "Trans Youth Care Leads To Worse Outcomes" *kehraaja.com (in Finnish)

A quick back of the envelope (and looking at the pack of printer paper here) that would be what, about 6.5m high stack of paper?! Crikey.
You always look good.

Brussels has begun “immediate engagement” with Péter Magyar after his landslide win in Hungary, seeking mended ties with Ukraine & overdue reforms to unlock €35bn in frozen EU funds
“The mindset is: let’s double down. If they deliver, we deliver,” said one EU official

Hungarian election: Orban's party Fidesz gets 38% of the vote, in a crushing defeat.
Last UK election: Starmer's party Labour gets 34% of the vote in a landslide victory.
Next UK election: Farage's party Reform UK could win a majority on 25% of the vote.
A lot of Orbán's American fans are saying that this election proved he was never an authoritarian in the first place.
This is completely wrong — and, in fact, betrays a complete misunderstanding of both Hungarian politics and modern authoritarianism.
Here's why.
You'll have to go out for a coffee.
Perhaps. Or maybe he just changed his suit.
The Telegraph just gave a convicted criminal a two-page spread to explain why he's pumping £4 million into Reform UK. They tucked his criminal record away in the small print. So as a former financial crime specialist I’ll do their job for them👇
I seem to have had a small rant™ in a team meeting that included the term "hauntology" and now I need to go have a coffee and consider my life choices.
Not me gazing into the mug of tasty specialty coffee that I have carefully ground and down a pour over of and humming "Hello darkness my old friend" to myself...
There are ways to deal with curves on platforms that are much easier and quicker than, for example, changing the heights and clearances of the thousands of bridges over the railway and reboring a load of tunnels. Plus if we electrify we can increase frequency which is also helps capacity.
*by actually wanted to I mean had the political will to do the thing we should have done decades ago. And, you know, make a better network.
I mean we could have the latter two within a couple of decades if we actually wanted to.
posting this 'ol thing again for no reason
