Josh Martin for CD5 Chair

After recovering from another successful convention this weekend, my campaign for CD5 DFL Chair continues. And my website is now live. In the coming weeks, I'll continue to reach out to delegates and alternates to the CD5 convention.🧵

We must do better, and we must ensure we are clear and honest about who we are honoring when we name our streets after people. When we have statues of people.

We still have work to do (Jackson St NE, the so-called pioneer statue, etc). But I’m happy the city is committed to moving on these.

When Dolores Huerta, herself a legend in the labor organization arena, came forward with her experiences earlier this year, the right thing to do became clear.

I appreciate Ward 5 city councilmember Pearll Warren for proposing this name change, and the city staff for moving the resolution.

As a person of Latine descent, I grew up hearing the hagiography of Cesar Chavez. My father was a proud union worker and labor organizer. Cesar Chavez was someone my dad wanted me to be proud of. And for a long time, I was.

But as is so often the case, other people’s stories remained hidden.

I’m happy to report that along with @aurinmpls.bsky.social and @angelaconley.bsky.social, I was part of the unanimous vote of the Planning Commission to remove the name of Cesar Chavez from the Minneapolis street carrying his name today.

angie craig thanks you for this framing because this is exactly the conversation she wants ahead of the DFL convention in rochester rather than having to reckon with her vote for the laken riley act and how minnesotans angry with the ICE occupation oppose her because of that

After 117 conventions that elected 1,200 delegates to the state convention, it’s clear Minnesota Democrats are consolidating around Peggy, who is in a strong position to win the DFL nomination:

Data collected by our campaign shows a huge enthusiasm and support gap in this race that is evident across Minnesota. Peggy Flanagan earned support from more delegates than Rep. Craig at over 90% of the 117 conventions held statewide.

Minnesota Democrats are strongly supporting Peggy Flanagan over Rep. Craig. Delegates supporting Peggy Flanagan come from small towns, suburbs, and big cities all over the state:

In Clay County (Moorhead), seven delegates elected to the state convention were committed to supporting Peggy Flanagan, while zero were committed to supporting Rep. Craig.

In Senate District 14 (Saint Cloud), nine delegates elected to the state convention were committed to supporting Peggy Flanagan, while one was committed to supporting Rep. Craig.

In Blue Earth County (Mankato), seven delegates elected to the state convention were committed to supporting Peggy Flanagan, while zero were committed to supporting Rep. Craig.

In Le Sueur County (Rural CD-02), data collected by our campaign shows five delegates elected to the state convention supported Peggy Flanagan, while zero supported Rep. Craig.

In Senate District 39 (Columbia Heights, Fridley), 14 delegates elected to the state convention were committed to supporting Peggy Flanagan, while zero were committed to supporting Rep. Craig.

In Senate District 67 (Saint Paul), eight delegates elected to the state convention were committed to supporting Peggy Flanagan, while zero were committed to supporting Rep. Craig.

At conventions where delegates were elected proportionally via walking subcaucus, delegates were committed to Peggy Flanagan over Rep. Craig at a rate of nearly 5 to 1. Nearly one-third (32%) of organizing units had zero Rep. Craig subcaucuses, while Peggy had representation in 100% of c…

Pretty frustrating that the New York Times is crediting AP with uncovering the existence of Aadam’s archive when I reported on it 15 months prior. chicagoreader.com/music/gossip...

I’m sorry you got stuck with a wet blanket delegate next to you! Was she the one who complained about people getting canceled?

This is all just a set up. Most productive council in history, most diverse, and people who just work really hard for our neighbors. We get made to be punching bag to tee up for the charter amendment on the ballot to strip council power and in turn constituent power. Don’t fall for it.

so offensive for elizabeth shaffer to say NOTHING about cardamom workers who lost jobs to QR codes & who will lose them when restaurant closes. shaffer only says she will "miss the moroccan cigars."

workers make our restaurants great while shaffer only talks of listening to owners and management

This, combined with the statements from MOD officers later, show that we are allowing a new avenue of “broken windows” policing to criminalize people dealing with addiction and unhoused homelessness. Will we bring back spitting and lurking laws next?

metro transit cops are already asking people in bus shelters if they're waiting for buses and if not, arresting. we had reports of it happening in a loring park chat on sunday night

perhaps the policing that less privileged areas of the city already face is simply finally making its way to uptown!

While I didn’t meet my wife at the State Convention, I did propose to her at the State Convention.

Clearly, love is in the air at the State Convention. Yet another reason to be a state delegate.

we have a problem with stalkers not being treated with the gravity this dangerous issue requires. sam sencer mura spoke of struggling to decide to run again after melissa hortman’s murder, this will drive away good public servants

Minneapolis conservatives: “city staff needs to stop wasting time on bathhouses when we have MORE IMPORTANT PRIORITIES”
City staff: “MAK HYPE REEL!!!!”

1 week ago 34 1 1 0

Mainly because the same CMs that feel we should be “focused on other issues,” have not brought policy forward this year with their name on it to address their purported “more important priorities.” It’s just posturing without doing any of the work. Maybe better to write some policy, then complain.
