Carol's county Democratic committee in Oregon takes positions in municipal races because it wants to push the agenda its members care about at the local level. But other local party committees don't do that because the professional class of liberals who dominate local Democratic groups either aren't themselves on board with economic, environ- mental, and racial policy priorities when it comes to local politics or else they do not want to face their immediate neighbors on those issues.
