Papalin Overproof Jamaican High Ester Blend #run. This is a real beauty. Funk, fruits (pineapple, banana, lime) and a little spice. You can smell this one from across the room. Drinks really nice for 57%. In honor of the end of the semester, I give this one an A+. @wheninrhum.bsky.social

Spotted this bottle in the way back at the hotel bar. I asked how much. Bartender said “our distributor just gave this to us, so I’ll just charge you for a ‘house rum, $14’” A lot of spice. Cherries. Classic banana on the nose. A little hot.

You want the funk? This Ecuadorian #Rum, El Amparo was dynamite, funky, briny, heavy, pot still, unaged #aguardiente

Tasted this at the Miami Rum Congress thanks to La Maison & Velier, and it was a standout.

If you’re looking for something a little different, a little new, check this bottle out

In Florida, so why not hit up the Hamilton #FRS #rum

A delicious easy sipper. Too easy.

Lil guyana. Lil Jamaica.

Who cares about the notes. This is tasty (vanilla, Dr Pepper, citrus, banana runts).

Awaiting the follow up about, once you decide what you want, you need to order it by some absolutely ridiculous phrase of a name.

This week already calls for 151. I’m still trying to get my hands on the False Idol blend. But this one is damn good.

Coca Cola, orange. Caramel. Cherry coke?

Had two pours: one neat and one diluted with a bit of water. This drinks dangerously below its abv.

Anyway… escapism.

Richley Hogo #Rum by @treehousebrewing.bsky.social

“Fermented with a host of native yeasts cultivated in dunder sourced from select previous distillations.”

Nose: bubblegum, frosting & ripe pineapple

Less burn than you would expect at 63%, a little banana on the palate.

A fun OP Jamaican-ish.

A pleasant tasting of Three Of Strong’s raw sugar cane #rum #agricole, Acadian.

It’s pretty dialed down at 40%, but actually a nice change of pace from the monster agricoles & overproofs I’ve been drinking lately

Nose: vegetal, vanilla yogurt, pineapple

Palate: slightly bitter, sweet aftertaste

Planteray Guyana 2007 #rum. Aged 13 years in Guyana and then 2 more in France. Lots of spices and citrus on the nose. Caramel and citrus on the palate. Very smooth at 51%. #PortMourant Still (which is one of 3 wooden pot stills in operation) and column still blend. I would drink this all day long.

I almost got an amazing deal on this Transcontinental Rum Line Fiji 2012. 65.3%. INTENSE nose, deeply fruity and gasoline-y. Tastes like a funky Jamaican #rum, but… different. A real showcase of #Fiji rum. How is this 65%? So smooth. This bottle is a real treat. Maybe one of the best rums I’ve had.

Mini-vertical of the 4 and 8-year Barbancourt #rhum.

The 4 def had more grassy & vegetal notes on both nose and palate.

The 8 had much more honey/caramel. A little bitterness/gasoline coming through

Both nice #rum, but with the #agricoles, I’m either for 0 age or 20+ years. Who’s with me?

Ron Zacapa 23. This #rum … tasty but not a lot going on. Smooth and yummy (huge dosage, I believe) for sure.

This is for your rum and cokes. Maybe an old fashioned? Or, seasonally appropriate: add a big splash to some eggnog.

People remain so willfully uneducated about rum. I guess it helps keep prices down for the rest of us though 🤷🏻‍♂️

#Rhum JM VSOP, 45% Last bit of the bottle buried in my in-laws liquor cabinet. Bottled in 2011, the current version is 43%. Sediment in the bottom of my glass. A tad oxidized.

Nose: oak, ethanol, cinnamon
Taste: smooth. Heat. Cherry. Vanilla. Spicy.

For the bottom of an old bottle, 👍

#rum

Cracked open this beautiful bottle tonight. My first Fijian #rum. #planteray 100% pot still. 10 years of tropical age and 3 continental.

I got tropical fruits and vanilla on the nose. Tasted of citrus, spice, and burnt sugar.

Very smooth (probably a little dosage in there). I’m very happy

Great bottle. Hampden is definitely my favorite distillery. Bonus: my wife loves their labels.

The #Rum tasting I hosted last night was a massive success. We tried 9 rums or different styles/countries/ages. I’m ready to do this professionally.

Hosting a #Rum tasting tonight. Here’s my initial thoughts on the lineup, in order. Subject to change. Thoughts?

I’m at a fun little bar in Boston with a good #rum selection and $6 mini daiquiris. Trying a rum old fashioned with a Holmes Cay blended rum.

Starting fresh. Going to try to focus more on martinis, rum, Jimmy Buffett, and dinner parties.
