I wrote "Coffee Maker Piano" some time in 2021, when I was still very much learning the craft of writing, as an experiment in processing grief through storytelling.
It's like a little touchstone back in time for me in several ways. One thing never changes though: I am a bad titler 😂

I feel like redemption is often tied up in healing/overcoming when it comes to disability, because disability is wrongly seen as inherent 'defect'? But there's a plethora of other options. Internal emotional redemption; Earning forgiveness after betrayal; Re-earning trust; Bettering a score, etc.

I'm doing some research for a big nonfiction work and it's wild how often “disabled characters shouldn’t be comfort tools for nondisabled readers” is responded to like we're setting fire to redemption/healing arcs… The dramatics are Shakespearean 🔥😅
