I don't think people understand that if you shut down the government, ICE and CBP do NOT shut down. They're funded by supplemental money from the BBB. That's why dems are separating the DHS funding bill and asking for restrictions. I want them to demand a rescission of that funding or shut DHS down

Hurricane Melissa, a sub-900 mb hurricane that has really only intensified in the last 96 hours with minimal fluctuations. The Enveloped Eyewall Lightning (EEL) structure is about as defined as it has been at any point in its life.
For Jamaica, this is about as worst case as can get…

AF308-2013A mission reconnaissance observation of peak 10-second average flight level winds for Hurricane Melissa valid as of 1701 UTC. The salmon-colored wind barbs indicate an excess of 137 kt (~157 mph). Pressure observations in mb/hPa are overlaid near the center of the storm.
Based on data from this recent recon pass, as well as other commentary from experts here, it is fair game to suspect that #Melissa is finding a way to continue strengthening.

And #Melissa is now a major hurricane. If we assume a window of time beginning at 15 UTC (11 AM EDT) as the baseline, Melissa has gone from a 60 kt tropical storm to a 100 kt Category 3 hurricane in roughly 12 hours. **40 kt in 12 hrs**
Unfortunately, no signs of slowing down in the short term…

A touching tribute in my dad's honor was made yesterday morning on @uninoticias.bsky.social 's flagship show "Despierta America", for which my dad worked on from its inception in 1997 to his retirement in 2020. Raul and my dad were like brothers and enjoyed working together for many years.
Cannot wait to try them!
It’s not even noon and I’ve had two glimmers today: jammed out to one of my favorite songs on the radio as I pulled into my spot at work AND got a digital library card so I can start utilizing online databases again! The nerd in me is overjoyed!
