What's happening in the world right now can be so disheartening, but as our live guest @abeba.blacksky.app reminded us: pessimism is not defeatism. And that pessimism can spur you into taking action for a better world.

We're rethinking the term 'knowledge worker' after chatting with @janeruffino.bsky.social.

🎉🥳
Stay tuned for the live episode with @abeba.blacksky.app coming out this week.
It was a riveting conversation about AI, ethics and accountability. And draws surprising links between the Pope and Shaggy ... you'll have to tune in to find out!
And we had some helpers on the night too, but really every one in the room was giving us their support and we felt it.
We have been floored by the good vibes and feedback received.
What's more, our generous audience raised over €400 for @medicalaidpal.bsky.social! 🙌
Kelly and Elaine are seated on stools either side of their guest interviewee, Abeba Birhane. Each of them are holding microphones and smiling as they chat. A screen behind them displays the logo for For Tech's Sake, featuring a desktop computer on fire.
We did it!
We moved our For Tech's Sake recording from remote video calls to live and in-person, and we couldn't have done it without the help of @thedigitalhub.bsky.social and @deelaffan.bsky.social from the Beár Bia podcast. ❤️❤️❤️
I’m currently in A&E with a very sweet Palestinian man who has been on the receiving end of non stop abuse from Irish people telling him to go home and saying he’s not sick and shouldn’t be here. It’s sad that he felt like he had to prove it but showed me the piles of medication he’s currently on
And if you want even more from us on subsea cables, check out our previous episode on this topic with @dfit.ie: pod.fo/e/25b33e
And a real-life place you can visit to immerse yourself in the history of telecommunications is Ye Olde Hurdy-Gurdy Museum of Vintage Radio in Howth!

She also recommends a visit to atlantic-cable.com for a deep dive (pun intended!) on the history of subsea cables.
If you too become subsea cable stan as a result of listening to this episode, @janeruffino.bsky.social also had a ton of recommendations for further exploration, such as the book The Undersea Network, a book by Nicole Starosielski (from @dukepress.bsky.social)

This episode was inspired by @janeruffino.bsky.social's terrific article in @wired.com about this experience, which was also documented with photographs from Irish artist Fiona Marron. www.wired.com/story/say-go...
OK, the internet isn't held together by spaghetti, but the cables that connect us sure look like that when they're bundled up.
We know this because @janeruffino.bsky.social visited a ship recovering the world's first transatlantic fibre-optic cable and told us all about it: pod.fo/e/3f9bf2
Sold out! But you can join the waitlist or donate to Medical Aid for Palestinians via our ticketing page.
