Nice piece. I was a regular for about 5 years in the mid 2010s. One factor I've always thought underestimated is that Hamlet is a great option for people who live in London, support a team elsewhere in the country that they can't get to as much as they'd like, but still want live football.

Used to be free after tea and there was minor outrage when they introduced the fiver but that seems fair enough to me for a couple of hours of cricket.
If anyone needs me I'm just over here cringing because I found out that Hyrox is short for 'hybrid rock star'.
Sad to read in @pressgazette.co.uk that Wired will no longer be publishing a UK print edition. I'm sure plenty of great editorial will continue digitally, but Wired UK in print was stunningly and innovatively designed.
I’d go for the sausages and bread. Or maybe the sausages and potatoes.
Lots of bin chat this morning. Still time to subscribe and get hold of this bad boy.
It's my own fault for using ChatGPT as a search tool, but this really made me laugh. "...with an important nuance..." is sublime 🤌
Yes, January a complete disaster all round. Losing our 3 best defenders, plus our best attacker.
Yeah, it's the sense that he's gone because he said a few mild things in interviews that the club didn't like that grates with me. I'm not fully signed up to the Struber love-in though - we lost too many home games, even before January. And the Roy appointment smacks of cluelessness and desperation.
It's very strange. I like Roy! Him being in charge for 7 largely inconsequential games might be nice in other circumstances. But I feel sorry for him as the atmosphere around the club will be absolutely toxic. Also picturing Gerhard, having one last melancholy jog round the harbourside. What a mess
When my phone starts lighting up with texts, including from people I haven't spoken to in years, either I'm on the TV, someone has died or Bristol City have done something ridiculous.
I've been keeping an eye on prices using the gov.uk fuel finder API, Tesco over the last few weeks, and Tesco has consistently been selling at 10p lower than everyone else over that time, as a loss-leader, and I'd hazard a guess that that's leading to this, rather than more generalised shortages.
Ah, yes, that's plausible.
Surely I’m not the only one who thinks this whenever they see a map of The Strait Of Hormuz on the news?
I've genuinely not seen any queues anywhere and I've filled up a few times since the war started. I guess a steady increase in people doing the same over a few weeks means this will start happening now. Slow burn panic buying.
The Big Tesco near me has been sold out of petrol for two days. Anyone seen similar?
Debit cards are used by under-18s, I guess. But passports makes no sense.
Look to pay about 30 quid. Or even less at Argos or Asda, both of which make decent toasters. More than that and you're largely paying for looks.
Should just name it after something already there. Loads of options! East Catbrain, Big Stoke...
I haven't for a while. Has it been on there? I do tend to think most non-fiction books (with the exception of history, I guess, although maybe some of that too) would be better as 10,000 word magazine pieces.
Is the enshittification book worth reading or is it one of those non-fiction books that should have just been a magazine article (which, of course, it was)?
Is the material the same on both pairs? I like 100% cotton for jeans but it's increasingly hard to find. Most denim now comes with between 1 and 3% elastane/spandex. Theory: the snug pair has a higher cotton percentage. (But yeah, could just be random sizing nonsense!).
Yeah, the thing about WhatsApp is that everyone I know is on it. When everyone I know is on Signal I'll happily switch.
Pep Guardiola is pure 6 Music dad tonight.
NEW: Wired’s editor Katie Drummond said it added 200k new paid subs last year. She told me: “If you still don’t understand why Wired covers politics, you are either willfully ignorant or a complete idiot.” www.nytimes.com/2026/03/17/b...
Just seen peak train etiquette good behaviour. Guy chatting to acquaintances he’d bumped into on the platform as the train pulls in. Says “anyway, nice to see you. I won’t sit and chat the whole journey in.” Then gets in the next carriage down.
Absolute hero!
Last time I had this I said 'I'm just going to go further up the platform so I can get a good seat and work'. The guy said 'good idea, me too'.
Email etiquette, a timeline
2015: Scrupulously edit all emails, FULL punctuation
2017: Don't use too many exclamation marks! People will think you are a small girl!
2021: Occasionally leave out full-stops as a power move
2026: One typo per email to show an AI didn't write it
Amazing.
There is a wide variety of instant coffee! Some of them taste bad, others are at least as good as lower-end ground coffee. You would have a Diet Coke first thing in the morning?
