If you're ever nearby to it, I think it's a pretty nice way to spend an afternoon.

There's a good website about the hike, with info about the crashed plane here:

A really interesting hike from 2019. Near Tofino there's a trail that starts from a tricky to find telephone pole. An hour or two through a marsh, past an abandoned military building, you reach a bomber plane that crashed in 1945. Wish I'd taken photos of it, I just have a few that my sister took.
After switching to a private e-mail instead of Gmail, every time I have to use an e-mail code 2FA and wait a few minutes... it makes me aware how much web devs just expect everybody to have instant e-mail? This expectation feels oddly creepy to me.
Sometimes a vegetable you didn't anticipate comes home from the supermarket. (The "wrong" cabbage was purchased.)
Moving the peppers to nursery pots.
Accidentally acquired a savoy cabbage, decided it should become soup. 🥬
We now have a trailer! I've had a pit in my stomach this past week just thinking of everything that needs to happen, but I'm also so excited to finally have this out to everyone.
BioCreeps is an action arcade game for the NES coming very soon. #nes #nesdev #indiedev #biocreeps
I'll never get over this live clip of Robert Fripp's short lived League of Gentlemen. I especially love Barry Andrews' hands reaching from the shadows to play the organ.

Are weird tunings having a moment? Maybe I should share this one I did many years ago:

! this this zoom in / out into car chase is incredible
The Ninja Gaiden arcade game has a lot of signs that seem to be parodies of real products. This beer sign was perplexing but my best guess is that LOIB CIEHM is almost an anagram of MICHELOB, and the red triangle with DRY on it is sort of like Michelob's red ribbon?
That's a surprise, it's not even very old at all! I got it from iTunes about 2 years ago.
The first track is on youtube still, but the rest I can't find anywhere publically.

Incidentally, I also wanted to live inside it forever, so I wrote a longer version for myself.

Like, it looks like I had 34 seeds to start with. I expected more than 1 to make it, but maybe at most 3, so only 1 isn't really far from my expectations.
The jalapeño are more like 30% I think, and they grow much faster.
It's hard to estimate, but definitely less than 10% for the reapers, probably less than 5%.
After a few weeks in the starter tray, it looks like only 1 of my reaper seedlings survived, and about 5 jalapeños look healthy. Also, the parent reaper has started making its first pepper of the year. 🌶

I played through it recently and loved it.
A meat tenderising hammer by a company called Dick. It's listed as "Dick Meat Tenderiser".
Partner found this and we're both losing our shit.
It's time for the return of the Aspetra Speedrunning Spectacular! This time with 6 competitors!

Please enjoy the two minute crucible that is this turtle trying to get on to a log that other turtles are on.
I had lapsed on WaniKani for a long time... much longer than I'd realized. Today I finally got back to 0 queued reviews and it feels like a big accomplishment. (Took about 3 months to get here from my maxed out queue of about ~1300 terms.) Japanese vocabulary once again pouring into my brain!
The article can be found on De Smit's website: pub.math.leidenuniv.nl/~smitbde/esc...

Bonus: @henryseg.bsky.social made a cool photograph featuring Lenstra with a similar construction: www.segerman.org/printgallery/
It seems Escher worked these lines out from a few desired properties, iterating until the curves became satisfactorily smooth, minimizing "bumps" of improper stretching. The true grid is infinite, but maybe he had less reference to figure out those unintuitive curves nearing the edge of the paper?
Escher's grid (green) overlaid on De Smit / Lenstra's derived grid (red). The greatest deviations can be seen in the corners.
The two grids overlaid on the Escher work (in pale blue).
After watching @3blue1brown.com's video on M.C. Escher's Prentententoonstelling, I wanted to know how close Escher's grid (green) came to the "exact" one derived by De Smit and Lenstra (red). The central square seems perfect, but the edges, and especially the corners deviate much more...
After 2.5 weeks germinating in a paper towel, about 1/3 of my reaper seeds have sprouted. Moving them to a seed starting tray, along with some jalapeños which grow a lot easier. Otherwise the parent pepper tree seems healthy and happy after a winter by the window. 🌶️🌱
