It's about an elf who is trying to help a tired dragon fall asleep by telling it a story. But the dragon would also settle for a little bedtime snack. So it had better be... THE GREATEST BEDTIME STORY EVER!!!

It’s Banned Books Week, and I don’t need you to buy my book as a solve for it (but buy it if you want to! That’s still extremely cool of you)—I need you to show up for your public libraries and your schools!

I have multiple friends whose books have been banned or whose school visits have been cancelled by a few angry parents. Meanwhile kids are struggling to read, their school libraries have been emptied, and their librarians fired. This is a tough time to be an author.

Thank you to everyone who celebrated the launch of SNOW KID with me today! Especially the kids who helped design this absolutely haunting snow person. The eyes look deep into your soul.

And they never blink...

In front of a colorful, snowy background, a kid made of snow inspects a copy of the book, Snow Kid, that is on the tip of their finger. Above, in white bubble letters is reads, "Snow Kid" and below that in smaller pink type it reads "September 16,2025"

❄SNOW KID, comes out next Tuesday and is available for pre-order now! Twig was a fun character to work on, and I hope you enjoy their story. It's about change (internal and external) and how we can keep becoming ourselves throughout our lives. AND about playing in the snow.

Top text reads "Snow Kid" and bottom text reads "September 16, 2025." In the middle of a snowy background a kid made of snow and a cardinal make snow angels.

One easy way to support a banned book: Tell the world you're reading it! If you share on social media include a link to somewhere people can get it. Word of mouth is a powerful way to draw attention to books & that takes readers like you shouting about the books you love!

I have spent weeks struggling with this book. WEEKS of not being able to figure out what I hated about it. And guess what... AI can't fix that. I had to think through the issues, I had to problem solve my way through the prose. And the satisfaction of doing it? unironically had me like this lmao

City of Ghosts is still on Netflix, if y’all need something to watch to remind you the power we have to bring light into the world (it’s about Los Angeles and history and ghosts but not in a scary way). Probably will make you cry, but I’ve been told it’s healthy/ happy tears.

Kidlit Happy Hour | Ep. 35: Voice: Namrata Tripathi on Jazz Odysseys and the Toothy Work of Excavating Truth | Podcastindex.org Highlights from our conversation with Founder and Publisher of Kokila, Namrata Tripathi:   The power of celebrating not just our communal work, but also ourselves Voice as an essential point of view with no illusion of neutrality How cheap workarounds subvert the hard work of uncovering our own voice  The power of words like “intuition” (despite how it may come off as fluffy or weak) Supporting writers in identifying who they are actually in conversation with on the page The lifelong work of knowing how to be more honest with ourselves and the world The priceless bit of pub...

I enjoyed this Kidlit Happy Hour episode with Namrata Tripathi. "Voice" is a difficult topic, but I really liked their discussion about what it is and isn't: podcastindex.org/podcast/6565...

As disappointing as it is, I think it was just a name I liked that stuck when I tried it out. Sometimes I opt for more meaningful names, but this one was pretty random. It's nice to know that it ended up having significance anyway!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about Spencer's New Pet, Melissa. After reading your post, I feel like I must confess that I didn't know Charlie Chaplin's middle name was Spencer! At least I don't think I did. What a magical coincidence.
