Hey instead of the LA cops getting $3.6 billion dollars a year, and also paying out close to $400 million in settlements, here's an idea ...

I will once again posit you could win with >70% if the vote with the simple "Police settlements come out of their pension fund, not the city funds" policy.
👇🏼!!!!!
We fucking warned y’all that this was the goddamned end goal for those smart glasses.
"Police say a man has been arrested after a gun he was holding killed..."
thats what this sounds like. wtf
Reports from the front lines suggest that widespread casualties from the flu epidemic may have been one reason the German army collapsed in 1918.
Screenshot of "Secretary of War Pete Hegseth" on X, writing: "The War Department is once again restoring freedom to our Joint Force. We are discarding the mandatory flu vaccine requirement, effective immediately."
I can't get over the fact that this guy sees himself as a quintessential "merit hire."
Remember the radicalized right wing Republicans screaming death panels about Obamacare??
It’s always projecting with these heinous people.

Tweet by “Secretary of War” Pete Hegseth: “The War Department is once again restoring freedom to our Joint Force. We are discarding the mandatory flu vaccine requirement, effective immediately.” Below there is a video of the announcement for his many, many illiterate fans
Behind Hegseth’s big stupid face, a painting can be seen.
The painting is of George Washington crossing the Delaware. It is by Emanuel Leutze.
An article from the National Parks Service: Smallpox, Inoculation, and the Revolutionary War Boston National Historical Park During the 1700s, smallpox raged through the American colonies and the Continental Army. Smallpox impacted the Continental Army severely during the Revolutionary War, so much so that George Washington mandated inoculation for all Continental soldiers in 1777. Just fifty-six years earlier, in 1721, Bostonian doctors and clergy introduced the procedure to the American colonies. Without the vision and determination of these early Bostonians in normalizing inoculation, Washington may not have made the decision to mandate inoculation for the Continental Army. Though it was a controversial action, many historians credit the medical mandate with the colonists' victory in the Revolutionary War and the creation of the United States of America.
Ah, "the housing we need in places where it makes sense" is a new dog whistle for maintaining racial and class-based segregation
impossible to overstate how poisonous this shit is. dudes on the street smiling and waving at your toddler are an indicator of a happy and functional community
Media needs to stop with "critics say" and just quote the actual language of the bill.
HB 249 creates a new category of "seminudity" which can be used to arrest women who aren't nude, but are wearing clothing — leggings, t-shirts without bras — that religious groups feel is too provocative.
Tweet from Secretary of War Pete Hegseth saying "We are discarding the mandatory flu vaccine requirement, effective immediately.
Article on the US Army website about flu outbreak killing 45,000 US soldiers during World War I
The peak of fear mongering. The author claims Ohio HB 249 will jail women for going braless in a T-shirt. HB 249 is about shielding kids from adult performances & imagery —not policing whether women wear bras, bikinis, or T-shirts. Twisting it into "women could be jailed for going braless" isn't just wrong —it's a deliberate misrepresentation. It's common sense to shield kids' innocence from adult performances & imaginary. Nothing but perversion - twisting a bill that aims to protect the innocence of children into something it's not. Do better.
Here's the thing:
If legislators didn't intend for HB 249 to be used against women wearing leggings and low-rise jeans, if they didn't mean for it to be used against trans people existing... THEY COULD FIX THE LANGUAGE.
They drafted it that way for a reason. It's naive to think they won't use it.
Oh they're really saying the quiet part with their full throats now, huh
I'm so old I can remember when the right had a full blown meltdown over CENSORSHIP and CANCELLATION when the Dr. Seuss estate pulled a couple of his obscure titles from publication for being real racist
Platnered and Pikered candidates are a cancer on the Democratic Party.
Democrat in key race defended guns after mass shooting and insulted Kaepernick
To expand on this a little: one thing that playing fast and loose with the facts lets you do as a judge is lie about the legal principles you're using to decide cases
‘Simply stop giving millionaires water for literally free’ is one of the most insane sounding but actually serious policy solutions out there
the other key success of magyar was uniting all the anti-orban factions into one overwhelming coalition united around accountability--around restoring democracy and the rule of law--around restoring the conditions under which other disagreements are possible
www.liberalcurrents.com/two-lessons-...
what magyar succeeded at was tying together these themes of elite corruption and pocketbook issues--"hungary is suffering because these fat cats are robbing you blind (and literally raping your children)"
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katalin...
indeed, the reason magyar left fidesz was (i shit you not) PARDONS FOR COVERING UP THE SEX ABUSE OF CHILDREN
www.liberalcurrents.com/we-need-to-t...
the thing about authoritarian regimes is that corruption is not an accidental feature. they are *structurally* corrupt. they sell you on this ethnonationalist vision, and in practice rob you blind. this is much of what magyar campaigned on--corruption. accountability.
1. Trump's ICE rushes to deport people branded "alien enemies."
2. Judge Boasberg orders them to stop.
3. ICE ignores him.
4. Judge threatens contempt.
5. Trump-appointed appellate judges knock that down — and the lone voice of dissent on the bench warns about the grave implications of doing so.
She was granted withholding of removal from India *decades* ago, and had been living and working legally (including for the U.S. government!) ever since.
But with third country removals now a real option, TSA shared her data with ICE and they arrested her at the airport on her way to a job.
Quite the 🧵
I think that's basically made up. To me (and I think quite a lot of people) a "search" occurs when a government official directly or indirectly interrogates any data that belongs to you *or is about you* to investigate you or your actions.
It’s a telling indicator of media desensitization that the US government’s ongoing program of murder on the high seas—which according to the perpetrators has killed fourteen (14) people this week— is no longer a subject for much serious or sustained news coverage.
