American combat deaths in World War I: 54,000.
American soldiers killed by flu in World War I: 45,000.
They would have given anything for a flu vaccine.

I…am having complicated feelings about finally watching a robot move big sheets of glass around for coating with #perovskites.
Relief. Pride. Impatience.
Let’s go, dammit!

Standing here realizing that we wrote our first check to Tandem PV nearly 10 years ago.
It’s been a lot of work to get here. It’s real now, though. #Perovskite tandems are here.

Tandem PV @tandempv.bsky.social perovskite tandem factory ribbon cutting! Here we go!
Ah, combat driving on the 880; how I did not miss thee.
Nothing has killed more soldiers in the history of humanity than disease. While worst is a more complicated question Hegseth is absolutely the dumbest secretary of defense the United States has ever had. bsky.app/profile/ones...
We are pleased, and also jet-lagged.
Here is the big story about Tandem PV @tandempv.bsky.social.
I will have more to say tomorrow during and after the ribbon cutting event.

I thought we weren't going to talk about this until tomorrow, but since the tandem is out of the bag, here are a few additional thoughts. As I think more stories are coming out tomorrow, I am going to stick to commenting on this one piece.

‘flagship plant 4.3 GW capacity potential…3.8 GW geothermal on US grid currently…658 MW binding PPAs, $7.2 billion revenue…2.6 GW in advanced development, 38 GW early stage…flagship cost $7,000/kW, goal $3,000…$1.2B spend 2026, $940 toward 400 MW plant, next $1B project level finance…pre-revenue’
The reason we invested in Tandem PV so many years ago was that it was obvious that putting the perovskite on the glass layer was 1) far better/easier/cheaper than layering it directly on silicon & 2) perovskite on glass makes every other silicon module manufacturer your customer.
More tomorrow.

Surpassing 30% total efficiency depends on dialing in those late arriving tools to ramp up the perovskite performance, which is ongoing, and also on sourcing decent, cheap, consistent silicon cells. >30% is coming.🔌💡
The perovskite layer is performing extremely well. There is plenty of room for improvement as the new tools are dialed in. The tariffs last year slowed everything down, making it hard to access foreign-made thin film tools, and nearly crashed a number of toolmakers, who are recovering. Slowly.

I was thinking this livery had to be older than the airplane itself, and indeed it is:

That disconcerting feeling when you are on a train that is one long articulated car (the District Line in this case) and both ends disappear from view while going around a corner.
Data couldn't be clearer. Countries want electrotech when faced with yet another fossil fuel disruption.
"Shipments of batteries, electric vehicles, and solar cells an annual increase of 34%, 53% and 80%. All three exports rose from February levels as well."

“In China bats have long been considered lucky creatures because the written symbol for bat has the same pronunciation as that for happiness. Consequently, bats are frequently featured in textile patterns and porcelain designs in both China and Japan. Since the perfection of the full moon is also viewed as an auspicious occurrence, the combination of a bat and the moon suggests exponential happiness.” color woodblock print of a black bat flying in front of a full moon
