Excited to present our new large national randomised controlled trial on a digital, scalable weight loss maintenance intervention led by @amyahern.bsky.social at #UKCO2025. We're currently recruiting from various commissioned weight loss interventions throughout the UK. @ukaso.bsky.social

Last month I officially graduated with my PhD from @cam.ac.uk 🎉🎓 I am incredibly grateful to my supervisors @amyahern.bsky.social and @julia-mueller-phd.bsky.social, my colleagues and friends at @mrcepid.bsky.social, my collaborators and my family for their constant guidance and support 🙏
Extremely excited to see this important and rigorously conducted piece of work published! Well done @laurakudlek.bsky.social
Fantastic work from the brilliant @laurakudlek.bsky.social 🤩 Another publication from her PhD on how we might use eating behaviour traits to personalise behavioural treatment of obesity
I was distraught that someone might think I had been. Such a damaging framing. But I thought the misspelled name would hopefully give the game away 😅
The newspaper article draws, in part, on a webinar we did for Cambridge Science Festival: "What does research tell us about maintaining a healthy weight?". The content of the talk was framed around questions submitted by members of the public in advance. You can watch it here youtu.be/RaroXqiswgU
Our research into the prevention and treatment of obesity is focussed on improving physical and mental health and wellbeing. Weight stigma and shaming people about body size and shape undermines this and causes considerable damage to the physical and mental health of people living with obesity.
Yesterday, a colleague alerted me that I had been "quoted" extensively in an article on how to get a "beach body". I was surprised and dismayed as I only have two tips for getting a beach body: 1) have a body 2) wear SPF
📢 We Are Hiring!! 📢 [Part-time remote working for the University of Cambridge @mrcepid.bsky.social]

Excellent to see our programme leader @amyahern.bsky.social presenting on “how to maintain a healthy weight” at the Cambridge Festival last night 👏 Lots of evidence-based, holistic & implementable takeaways for the public💡
Since 1911, International Women’s Day has championed the rights of women, and challenged the inequality faced in all walks of like.

@jeanmadams.bsky.social is a woman whose brilliance still awes me, but whose honesty, empathy & friendship has helped get me through some really tough times and helped me figure out the sort of leader I want to be.
As her mum inspired her, Jean inspires and supports countless other women in science

Dr @cararuggiero.bsky.social and @drmariespreckley.bsky.social from the @mrcepid.bsky.social, @uniofcam.bsky.social, presented evidence at Westminster yesterday to inform policy at the Cross-Party Group on a Fit and Healthy Childhood and sharing details of SPROUT.
We need more women like Sue Ozanne in senior leadership positions within the University. Her science is exceptional, but so is her commitment to building a positive research culture where people can both enjoy their work and deliver world-leading research.
Despite working in the same unit, I only really got to know Lou when we were both sleep deprived mums on Mat leav. Her frankness and humour on our caffeine-fuelled pram walks helped keep me sane. Seeing her balance motherhood with taking on the role of Co-Director of GDAR has been awe-inspiring. 🤩
I was very lucky to have @amyahern.bsky.social as my PhD supervisor! Undoubtedly one of the most talented and compassionate people I could have worked if.
I'm sure the humour came in very handy when having to put up with me as a student...
For International Women’s Day, we are celebrating the women of the @mrcepid.bsky.social and Activity Research Network, and the @ims-mrl.bsky.social.
Meet Dr @amyahern.bsky.social, Principal Research Associate, MRC Epidemiology Unit

Aw. It has been a privilege to support you in your development and success, Jack. A shared sense of (dark) humour definitely helped get us through the tough times!
Absolutely insane.
And will further exacerbate inequalities for kids whose parents are less engaged/able/available for support…. It’s not like a 5yo can even try to muddle through on their own.
Delighted to finally publish results of our GLoW trial in @diabetologiajnl.bsky.social. Fantastic work by joint lead authors @julia-mueller-phd.bsky.social and Penny Breeze. See thread for a summary of what we found
📢We are pleased to announce the publication of our Glucose Lowering through Weight Management (GLoW) trial in @diabetologiajnl.bsky.social, led by @amyahern.bsky.social and other researchers from @mrcepid.bsky.social, @sheffielduni.bsky.social & @universityofleeds.bsky.social🔗http://bit.ly/3Qaf51w 🧵
that’s very kind of you to say but I can only hope the reviewers agree. I have regular intrusive thoughts about that grant being rejected and Nick telling me it’s because I’m not a proper scientist and I need to leave Cambridge immediately 😅😂
Trying to decide if it will make your imposter syndrome better or worse to tell you your inner voice is a proper pillock…. 😉
Just know your brilliance inspires feelings of inferiority in others on a regular basis 😊
A busy few days in Malaga organising the fantastic programme for #ECO2025. Still time to submit a late breaking abstract by 28th February
Hope to see you there in May! ☀️🇪🇸
I am excited to share our latest paper @Nature where we construct a hi-res spatial map of the human hypothalamus, the brain region central in appetite control. It is a collaboration between @IMS_MRL @Cambridge_Uni & @MPI_Metabolism

Got new important findings that weren't available by the standard abstract deadline? Good news - the late breaking abstract submission is now open for #ECO2025
@easoobesity.bsky.social
Great to hear @cararuggiero.bsky.social discussing her “why?” and the importance of finding your people in research. We’re very glad we found Cara/she found us and brought her passion and skills to our team. Excited about her developing new ideas in food insecurity and infant feeding.
New paper led by the brilliant @tamlahealthpsyc.bsky.social who recently joined our team. Excited for her to apply her health psychology expertise to our research on weight loss maintenance 🤩
