I must stress that that was not meant to be a pun.

bah, been too busy so nothing new at the moment :/ But I've got some more time next week to play catch up with.

In the meantime, here's an old robot from 2019 in some very sedate colours.

Sometimes I think it might be fun to revisit one of these older pics and bring it up to my current standard.

I go the other way with my mechs; each one might share some base parts with others, but they're generally bespoke machines due to the cost of manufacturing. I've always asumed the colour schemes are aftermarket; chosen by the current pilot.

Hopefully they do, enough of my mechs have them that, if they don't, they're in trouble :D

:D Thank you, much appreciated :D

Essential wear for a lot of my mechs :D

Sorry, it's a little less historic (and by a little, I guess I mean significantly not at all); the inspiration for the livery was Shiloh from Echoes of Mana, although I used less red and more blue :D

And why not both (sword and sometimes paddle) :D

pilot: That! That's my colourscheme!
spray tech: Which one?
pilot: The whole picture!
spray tech: '_'

I will unironically be saving this image for later; Nerds and Crush are a whole new kind of wonderful.

Is this a subtle reference? Not sure, but it -is- a big mech with big swords and even bigger flares.

Thanks for the mention!

aha, I love that as an insult :D

So, if I post something that's liveried in black on black with black accents, then the pilot's probably a mall ninja :D

for me, that would be black on its own. Like how in films everyone's wearing black because directors are terminally affraid of colour.

Don't get me wrong, the John Player Special livery is sweet, and black used to make bright colours more vibrant is fine but, on its own, thats tacticool to me.

I've also always assumed that the tongues on my robots are prehensile, so they could be used the way an octopus uses its tentacles.

Which may be slightly horrifying :'D

One could argue that a robot doesn't need to mimic the movements of a human when using a sword because it doesn't have the same restrictions that a human body does.

Taken a step further, it's limbs may benefit from being in different places and having an entirely different range of movements.

In manufacturing a lot of machines on production lines only have single limbs to do something a human requires two to do, because the field of movement of their joints and the force they can apply, through hydraulics or gears, can far exceed a human's.

Cool! Yeah, I think four main colours is too many for a mech, or a small vehicle. I'd done one previously with similar colours and used the fourth only as a highlight.

It's pretty derpy, that could be it :D

Ah, I was thinking it might be a mech I hadn't heard of. That's pretty cool.

It does have two heads. I think if I revist it, i'll incoporate this 'god of doorways' element; with some tweaking, the swords could be made to look more key like! Thank you!

I think using intentionally 'bad' (or rather, unrefined) colour schemes would be a neat way to subtly hint at / identify all the Patrick Colasours of my world.

I did a 'good' version of the colours last year, but the red was used only as an accent (and was actually pink). So you could say rGBW are the colours of a competent pilot, whilst RGBW are the colours of a hapless jobber :D

Maybe this is it? The reason I keep retrying it is cause it's maybe one too many 'main' colours to work on a mech (but I want to make it work). Maybe pilots who aren't that good choose colour-schemes that aren't that good?

That's very true! I wish I could say I had thought of that connection, it's a pretty excellent observation :D

:D It very much is, it's where the fun ideas are at :D
