The last few days have seen tremendous movement on President Trump’s EOs related to DEI work in schools. MDE issued guidance on Thursday and DoED issued an FAQ on Friday.

How many consecutive minutes of children screaming during the morning routine before it’s considered elder abuse?

On a day like today, the question is whether I won the multi-circuit lottery when I found you!

We’re also starting at a potential “cold day” on Tuesday. Daycare stays open on “cold days” and my wife is a high school teacher. It’s her birthday. I should stay home right??? 😂😂

My wife is off Monday but daycare is open. I don’t think she’s ever been as excited.

Spanish Elsa Tonie

Spanish Elsa Tonie

Disney princesses for Disney sings, Spider man for the Spidey theme song, etc.

The girls (especially my youngest) is going through a HEAVY Frozen phase. So my wife bought Elsa.

This morning, we bring it down for breakfast. And it’s singing in Spanish.

This is the tonie she bought:

I love my wife. Sometimes she makes hilarious mistakes. For Christmas, my daughters got Tonies, which (for those that aren’t deep into kids toys) are essentially RFID boomboxes. In the infinite pokemonization that has taken over kids toys, they come with figurines that sing songs.

Revisiting this…

Yes, that child stayed up to her normal bed time.

Yes, I’m also exhausted.

Someone I knew used to talk about coffee with a double shot of espresso. I forget what it was called, but I think I need it.

Poster on the side of a building in Detroit with the fllllwing text:

There are football fans and then there are Detroit Lions fans. And damn, are we loyal. We make even the devout jealous. Our passion is passed down like a family heirloom. Generations of Honolulu Blue collars with white-knuckle optimism. Because we believe that grit is greater than flash. That’s why we see what others can’t. Believe what others won’t. And that’s why we know: this is our year.

Today is the first day back in daycare for my kids where both my wife and I work. God, please grant me the serenity to… yeah, I need the ellipses.

I stole this from Facebook but I don’t care.

This is an excellent resolution. And one I would fail at so horribly. This morning, I listened to “Let it Go” from Frozen on repeat after taking my youngest to the doctor for her three year well visit.

Ultimately, a good legal team is *already* doing this work. Typically, you start with a precedent, and a junior person will double check to make sure all the pieces it relies on are still accurate and good.

I do this with *my own work* if I can’t reconnect the dots in my head.

This right here is the immediate risk of over-use of AI. But I do think there is room to use AI narrowly in legal practice today. And future iterations that connect the words to precedent (whether internal, or legal, or other) for review will help lawyers do the background details efficiently.

The format of Notebook LM, if secure, could be tremendous for discovery purposes too. Notebook LM is great in that it allows you to pull to the source documents causing it to respond to the inquiry with those words.

I’m super interested in the AI space (and speak on it regularly with my K-12 education clients). I think its current format is terrible for legal research. I do think there is tremendous opportunity in contract drafting/distilling long documents. For example, I used Notebook LM for Title IX.

I’ve been happily too busy with life to give it much though since the election.
