Walz: If you say you love freedom but you don't believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love is not freedom, it is privilege.

The termination of 850 Indian Health Service physicians, nurses, and dentists will have a grave impact on access to care for millions of Native Americans.
Upholding our treaty obligations is not optional.
I mean, I told them to go fuck themselves but am still mystified that this was even an ask.
I work in the healthcare field; my organization is the community partner for a research institute (separate and apart from the university requesting I change my bio).
It was Northwestern, too, BTW.
You know it. And the thing was, the person who requested this had “they/them” in the email signature. I imagine that this didn’t feel good for them in anyway. I wasn’t the biggest jerk that I could’ve been, but I did decline to appear. Because f that.
Just wondering @walshfreedom.bsky.social if even you can get through to your old compatriots. So disheartening.
That part EXACTLY
I was told that I had to remove “HIV prevention and gender affirming care” from a bio to present … AT A CONFERENCE ON HIV RESEARCH. Universities are shitting bricks.
8 years is starting to feel like too long to wait for the asteroid to hit.
The concern for me is that trust and treaty obligations stand only insofar as people respect them. And this admin has shown a willingness to disregard laws/ protocols/ norms. Indian Country is not safe.
As a medical anthropologist, I’ve done HIV prevention work for nearly 3 decades. Absolutely done in that a university would ask me to remove that from a bio - specifically re: queer health - for fear of running afoul of the thought police/ loss of $. Dark times.
You know it’s a stinker when one of our MAGA Senators offered to fight on BEHALF of Native American health programs impacted by this horseshit.
My area of practice looks at intergenerational trauma and its impacts on contemporary health in urban AI/AN populations. We do a lot of translational research/ culturally grounded HP/DP interventions.
Tá mé ag foghlaim. Labhraím Gaeilge gach lá, ach déanaim go dona é!
Never did study that explicitly but am interested in traditional medicine/wellness.
I am be-dumbed. Like, obviously this isn’t parody but holy shit …
Trump DOJ attorneys are arguing that Native American birthright citizenship is invalid under the 14th Amendment. Now I am going to lose my mind. #indigisky
@aoc.bsky.social
Two friends - Native women - in TCU liaison positions in federal agencies are sweating losing their jobs d/t DEIA memo of yesterday. They'll know today by 5PM. I'm trying not to freak out but this is chilling.
Déanaim mo dhícheall! It's my cousin who's the super smart Gaeilgeoir.
As for the rest, coming of age in the AIDS crisis, seeing friends die was formative. Remember when we had "the 4 H" groups? Grateful to the applied anthro who helped me transform my rage into action.
You’ve made me realize that I am desperately boring. Started an anthropologist, stayed one. Though as a kid I wanted to drive a lorry. Does that count?
You can practically hear the sound of red hats exploding everywhere at once.
I shudder to think what this smells like.
This was just fucking brilliant.
Okay, Joe … now do Leonard Peltier.
Let’s start with Leonard Peltier.
If only we could stop the weird and random capitalization of words.
Joy killer 😂
People literally just wanted eggs to be cheaper and they're going to get Attorney General Humbert Humbert plus the return of polio.
