Layoffs have reached the highest level since 2009. (And AI may not even be to blame.) New data shows that job cuts run rampant across a variety of sectors for a variety of reasons.

Inside the Minneapolis restaurant that has stopped charging for food until ICE leaves the city Owner Dylan Alverson explains why Modern Times is now donation-only to feed hungry neighbors and stop contributing to taxes that fund ICE.

I talked with the owner of Modern Times, one of my favorite spots in Minneapolis, about making the entire menu free for everyone (except ICE) until ICE leaves the city.

While reporting this, I had something happen that's never happened. A comms rep for one of the co's disputed my reporting and said what I was telling them was untrue because it was not in Grok, xAI's chatbot.

I was looking directly at the files. And this person was using AI to challenge the truth.

January 6th participant: January 6th was an insurrection. I broke the law. Police officers were assaulted that day. I point the finger to Trump.

Rep. Correa: So this really happened. This was an assault on our democracy, on our Capitol.

J6 participant: Absolutely. Orchestrated by Trump.

People Are Becoming Obsessed with ChatGPT and Spiraling Into Severe Delusions A startling number of ChatGPT uses are developing intense, reality-bending AI delusions. The impacts on their real lives are often disastrous.

This is a fantastic article from @mharrisondupre.bsky.social that lays out the core issues with ChatGPT and psychosis. I really appreciate the point that the industry’s own claims about AI technology are not rooted in reality and reinforce delusional thinking. futurism.com/chatgpt-ment...

The weaponization of Waymo How protestors turned torched Waymos into icons of the anti-ICE demonstrations

I spent some time at the site where protestors incinerated five Waymos—all lined up neatly in a row in downtown LA—and spoke to journalists, eyewitnesses and activists who were there.

This is how protestors weaponized Waymos and Lime scooters, and turned them into icons of the anti-ICE uprising

I spent so many years covering propaganda anticipating this exact moment and so many of my peers bought the paid-for contrarian line that even covering disinformation was somehow, itself, censorship.

Now we're at the event horizon. Celebration is protest is riot is justification for a police state.

Chasten and I are relieved that Governor Shapiro and his family are safe. While we wait to learn more, this much is clear: the targeting of a public official and his family - especially a prominent Jewish official on a major Jewish holiday - is unconscionable and has no place in our country.

The attack on Josh Shapiro and his family during the first night of Passover is chilling, tbh. Maybe it has nothing to do with them being Jewish. But we don’t know that right now. The historical echoes are bad, either way.

She’s Young, Trump-Friendly, and Has a White House Press Pass (Gift Article) Natalie Winters, a protégée of Stephen Bannon, belongs to a newly high-profile contingent of West Wing reporters.

Nice puff piece on a young fascist. Maybe a Palestinian student activist can get one of these profiles in the NYT one day. Alas.

Taking Amtrak this holiday season has been markedly better than the bus. There’s a real sense of community in coach.

In my rush to catch the polar express, I forgot sunglasses and a hair tie. Or so I thought—a hair tie just fell out of my hair. Yes, I am a sight to behold rn.

Vivek Ramaswamy Calls Out Loans for Electric Vehicle Manufacturing Ramaswamy will co-lead the planned Department of Government Efficiency along with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. One of the loans is for Rivian, a Tesla competitor.

Oh, the hypocrisy is just flat-out hilarious. You know who also took out a government loan years ago? Tesla. I spoke to @inc.com's @chloeaiello.bsky.social about the latest (immature and misinformed) backlash Rivian faces over its $6.6 billion loan.
