Peter Magyar confirmed that Szijjarto, Orbán's FM, has barricaded himself with some of his closest colleagues and is shredding documents related to the sanctions on Russia any other evidence of treason.

It is a slur to refer to trans women as "biological men" or "biological males."
But I want to hear from @nigella.bsky.social about Trump and @alphaville.ft.com about cooking
While reading the news from Budapest, take a moment to look at this photo of Hungarian-American Bela Lugosi at an antifascist rally in Los Angeles during the war.

With 98% of the vote in, opposition party Tisza has 138 seats, well over a 2/3rd majority.
It's pretty hard to understate how good this news is. Hungary's obstruction in Europe, done at the behest of Russia, is likely over.
But it's unclear just what Magyar will mean for Ukraine, e.g. www.epc.eu/publication/...
The absolute state of this... "DPhil Poetry" "Hungary has fallen"
Péter Magyar victory speech:
"We want to make a country where no one is persecuted because they think differently or because someone loves in a different way to others."
He may not have campaigned as a liberal. But this is a huge change of direction and rhetoric from Orbán’s anti-LGBTQ+ crusade.
this is a boring take but if we want this from a Dem President in 2029 we need to deliver the type of huge legislative majority Magyar just achieved and not the razor-thin one that Biden was forced to work with.
Me, sowing an electoral system so I can get a constitution-amending supermajority on a smaller share of the vote: Haha fuck yeah!!! Yes!!
Me, reaping an electoral system where they can get a constitution-amending supermajority on a smaller share of the vote: Well this fucking sucks. What the fuck.
This is not just a victory for the people of Hungary, but for all those around the world who believe in international cooperation, democracy and the rule of law 🇭🇺
Magyar: “Hungary will again be a strong ally in the European Union and NATO.”
Magyar: “No mercy, they will need to take responsibility for all their actions.”
He’s announced that Hungary will join the European Prosecution Office so anyone in the country can be charged.
🚨 NEW: Keir Starmer has congratulated Magyar Péter after Viktor Orbán lost Hungary’s Parliamentary election
"This is an historic moment, not only for Hungary, but for European democracy"
Orban was a cornerstone of the international anti-trans movements. Hungarian trans people were among the early targets of his authoritarian regime.
It'll take a long time to come back from it all but I hope Hungarian trans people sleep slightly better tonight.
JD Vance, are you free in October
Actually, don’t send him.
Jakub Krupa Jakub Krupa After delivering his speech, Orbán kind of shrugs his arms to someone in the front row as if saying “what else was I supposed to do.” He looks defeated.
This is the future liberals want
He's still in the EPP Group, so he's at the very least in with the Euro-Conservatives like the CxU in Germany. So he's a long way from being a bleeding heart liberal.
But he's not a Putinist, so it's a step in the right direction.
It’s my general understanding, which I readily concede is limited, that Magyar is not a great guy himself, but that this is nonetheless an improvement and step in a better direction. And that is to be applauded. Perfect is the enemy of good
My Spring to do list

1. Prevent Iran war
2. Negotiate end to Iran war
3. Reelect Viktor Orbán
Orbán controlled 80% of the Hungarian media and still lost.
That’s one hell of a beating
Tonight I'm thinking of the many Hungarians I've met over the years - many of them abroad against their wishes, many of them queer - who haven't stopped fighting, for sixteen years. For most of us, Orbán was an on-and-off nuisance on TV - at best. For them, he was a constant nightmare.
BREAKING: Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán concedes defeat to Peter Magyar after "painful" election result, ending 16 years in power.
