We’re sending our solidarity and support to Jewish communities after a frightening series of targeted antisemitic attacks. Jewish people, like everyone else, have the right to safety and belonging where they worship, work and live.

There is far too much presentism in the antisemitism conversation, too many claims that ‘Oct 7 changed everything’. The notion that there has been a big rise in antisemtism is around 20 years old. In 2007 Channel 4 Broadcast The War on Britain’s Jews, a documentary by Richard Littlejohn.
It seems Starmer's whole defence is that the civil service conspired to not tell him things, as if they were plotting against him. Can't see this going well....
Incredibly unusual. If we understand antisemitism as the structural oppression of Jews it would make no sense for a Jew to be antisemitic, since they would also suffer from the oppression.
Poacher turns gamekeeper. What a shonde for the JC to give fascist Farage a column.

This is a sobering read but what it reiterates to me is the unwiseness of combining a large range of diverse phenomena under the term ‘antisemitism’. It makes it all but impossible to deal with any of them. Much better to consider them separately and specifically. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
A spokesperson for the Campaign Against Antisemitism described the situation as "a spate of daily arson attacks on the Jewish community" and warned of escalating risks. "It betrays a cataclysmic failure of the state - politicians, police chiefs and prosecutors - to tackle antisemitic extremism in this country," the spokesperson said. "Britain is fundamentally a different country now."
I am arguing against comments like this which are useless and unhelpful in combatting what seems to be a very specific group / threat
No idea of the accuracy of this but it sounds quite plausible. And if correct has nothing to do with a generalised ‘rise in antisemitism’ in society. observer.co.uk/news/nationa...
What’s the basis for 1 remaining true? Might we instead say there is no longer a Palestinian national consensus? That the calls for a one state vision are growing but lack institutional support?
This helped me get it in three
Right and there’s the Labour 2005 Svengali posters too. The thing that struck me is that everyone is saying oh it’s nothing to do with his background, we just see him as this demonic, Dracula-esque figure…
Continuing my interest in cases of overlooked historic antisemitism, when Anne Widdecombe accused Michael Howard of ‘having something of the night about him’ in 1997 it was blatantly antisemitic. But everyone, including the Jewish press, was like ‘nothing to see here, move on please’.
Best not to jump to conclusions about motives. But IF this is motivated by Israel then 1) it’s utterly misplaced - diaspora Jews have no power over the Israeli gvt 2) it’s highly counterproductive - bolstering the most fearful and reactionary attitudes in the community www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Labour frontbencher Steve reed apologises unreservedly for "puppet master" tweet about Jewish Tory donor.
Chutzpah.
Absolutely not, I mean a free Palestine in all of historic Palestine. A one state solution with equal rights for all, and the right of return for Palestinian refugees. Tucker Carlson is not an ally in that project.
A brief glance at my timeline would show that I’m pro Palestine and a very strong critic of Israel. This does not mean, however, that all claims of antisemtism are invented. Treating them as if they inevitably are is deeply detrimental to the cause of a free Palestine.

The end of the video is just Carlson saying that he’s not an antisemite, implying that the video is on his side
7 year old: how long does it take people to convert to Judaism?
Me: maybe 2-3 years?
7 year old: well it takes 10 years to become a sushi chef.
Tucker Carlson is an antisemite though. Not because he’s anti-Zionist. Because he’s a white nationalist. You are right to go after Randy Fine but please don’t give any support to Carlson.
As someone who has identified as a neo-bundist for about 20 years I’ve been hearing this crap for a long time and still do, including from liberals
"The Holocaust proved the Bund was wrong" is both disgusting victim blaming and incredibly stupid.
Hundreds of thousands of Zionists perished in the Holocaust. Does it prove Zionism was wrong?
No Jewish ideology/social movement was able to come up with a plan to survive the Nazi genocide.
Kanye is right-wing so she doesn’t see him as a threat
Sounds like Hobson-Jobson!
Absurd views aside, the most famous British Jewish historian is surprisingly incurious about British-Jewish history. He jumps from his schooldays to the present, as if there were no intermediate steps. My findings are that communal security took off in the 1980s www.timesofisrael.com/historian-si...
“I am a deeply committed anti-fascist and have been all my adult life. I lived on a kibbutz for many months in the 1970s that was attacked on 7 October, am pro-Jew and the Jewish state, while being equally committed to a Palestinian state.”
What is this from Melvin Benn who booked Kanye West
I don’t want to see him play either but not sure about either using immigration control to block him, or about a campaign led by the CAA. Feel that either would be counterproductive. A multi-ethnic campaign to get Wireless to rescind the booking would be best.
Like ‘Litvishly’. Will have to coin Galititzianically in response.
