Just started learning Pico-8, me and a friend of mine decided to set a little project for ourselves over the next couple weeks which was to make a Sokoban game. That being said we plan for it to be extraordinarily simple, just so we can learn. I think more concrete projects could be good for me.

with Pico-8 forever, but just until I feel like I get a better sense for what it means to develop a game development project, also a better handle on my time management where I can juggle, manual reading, basic projects, and also reading my game design books. I'm excited!

The other big plus is a friend of mine, interested in game development, has told me they're also interested in the idea as a way to get into the program, so I think once I'm satisfied with this 3D Character Controller project, I will be moving on to Pico-8 for a couple months. I don't plan to dev...

is that there's just so much. I don't necesarilly feel overwhelmed or afraid of this, but I think really being able to tunnel my learning and limit my scope will do a lot for helping me learn, and just the idea of making and playing Pico-8 games I think is really exciting and enticing to me.

Now I've already known about Pico-8 for a long time, but I've seen a lot of videos recommending it as the best place to start for game development. Now at first I liked the novelty of the idea but I HAD to learn Godot. But I think something with Godot as of rn and with my current attempts...

So my last BSKY post that I literally wrote LIVE was kind of my headspace in this last week, but the thing about this is actually while in that headspace I discovered something. Predominantly, this thing was Pico-8.

above all else. Tells you about the inner-workings of the engine, recommends resources, refreshes and teaches on mathematics and physics principles needed for game dev. So I think I will try to juggle those two tasks going forward, but only once I finish this 3D Character Controller LARP.

games like Pacman, Galaga, Frogger, Snake, etc. I think learning to make those will be a lot more valuable. Alongside that I'd like to find the time to just read the Godot manual, from poking around in it, it seems that's more so the kind of foundational reading for Godot I'd like to prioritize...

to project in a way that's valuable to me, I'm not gonna really be learning. Godot is such a high-level software with tons of tools and I think if I can't really channel my studies with it, it's not gonna be meaningful. So I will probably look to do some projects where I re-create some arcade...

That being said I think once I'm done with this tutorial, I'm gonna shift gears on how I attack game dev learning again. I think this Godot University stuff has been good for exposure purposes, but I think without a project to work on, and without an idea for how to progress from project...

me because my end goal with game dev is to make 3D games in the style of SOTC or Ico or 3D Zelda. Currently I'm adding more animations, altering the movement to fit my preferences, and looking to develop the level a little more so it's more of a "game" then just a character that can move in space.

Currently working on adding to a tutorial like I had done before with the 2D game tutorial by Brackeys. This time it's a 3D character controller which taught you how to take 3D models, make a 3D environment, and code character movement with a controlled camera. It is actually really valuable to...

I AM A GAME DESIGNER!

I just got this book cause one of my close friends is learning game design too and bought it and I felt envious, I didn’t want them to get ahead. And so I’ve started my new year by reading it and it’s been getting my quite inspired. I hope I can continue chasing this feeling.

So I finished my little game demo, it was pretty cool to finish it and have other people play the game and get feedback (even though I was never going to improve it). Seeing my little psychological tricks work on people was pretty fun! I’m excited to keep making things.

it’s a time of year where people often feel isolated, alone & the shadows of the world seem closer. I’ve lost friends during this time of year, people who I know would have found the light again. just a reminder to reach out to friends, family or support organizations. just take that first step.

So ever since starting my tutorials I've been a little more "enthusiastic" about making games I guess you could say, that being said I had the terrible idea of making a whole ass LEVEL for this tutorial I did, and now I've been here making this for like a week lol.

building an extra level of this tutorial game as well, I think that may be an interesting endeavor and "homework assignment".

I've become a student of "Godot University" and 1.5 videos in I'm starting to feel the motivation well back in myself a bit. It's nice to kind of just make something, even if it's alongside a tutorial, especially since the tutorial sort of encourages you to mix it up a bit. I plan on probably...

I’m now gonna start this tutorial on YouTube which comes from a playlist called “Godot University”. I’m excited to start it cause it seems quite interactive and a bit jumpy, which I don’t think will be conducive to the most tactile and specific learning, but it will at least rejuvenate more of my…

back to code and Scene structures from the first. I imagine if I do a 3D project, I may experience a similar loop.

I just finished the basic Godot tutorials in the manual for both 2D and 3D. They’re very useful projects I feel, just for gaining some basic familiarity with techniques as well as familiarity with different elements of the engine. When trying to make my first project, I would frequently reference…

The Gameboy version of the game?

4 months ago 0 0 0 0

I haven’t made any game, I started learning to make games like a month ago.

only thing is I wish I had it in me to keep working a little harder, I think there was a chance for me to do a little more. But it is what it is, I have so much journey ahead of me, no reason to waste it on the side of the road kicking a pebble.

honestly think this was a good exercise to learn my limits and how to manage my time and to be more intimately understand the relationship between motivation and creation. This doesn't mean I'll stop learning and trying to improve, far from it, this has only emboldened me to keep learning. The...

I haven't had the motivation lately and I think tieing myself to a project has made it difficulty for me to keep up my learning as I've wanted. So I think I will stop working on my current project and just go back to purely learning Godot and Game Dev and Coding. I'm not too upset about it, I...

The main thing is the main arcade game was too ill-defined and trying to make it multi-leveled as well as have this interesting push and pull was getting too complex for me. If I can make something that’s just one level and point-based, it should be easier to develop.

4 months ago 0 0 0 0

I think the general idea of what I want to do is fine, but I just can’t make any components of it anymore than a few degrees complex less I entirely lose control of the project and will have to scrap everytime it gets even remotely in the weeds.

4 months ago 0 0 1 0

I think I need to re-think the scope of my game. I’ve started to get very in the weeds into the design of some elements and its making the development process a lot more complicated than it needs to be, especially for someone who is inexperienced at organizing sw projects and at game development.
