💙 RIP to a real one. My childhood hero
Some (+)ve news to lighten another heavy weekend: our latest preprint (c/o Mattiroli + Ramani labs) is up!
www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
A tour-de-force by 1st authors Bruna Eckhardt & @palindromephd.bsky.social, focusing on chromatin replication. RTs welcome; tweetorial in 3,2...(1/n)
Both on point and a delight to read 😅
Murderbot!
Cartoon showing a woman looking in to a microscope saying "Whoaah!!!" The caption states "The best part of Science is knowing, for a moment, something that nobody else in the world knows"
A reminder in these hard times. #sciencestrong
That's me! Thanks to Bob and Linda and Gladstone for the award and thanks to the organizers at @asbmb.bsky.social for giving me the opportunity to share some of our as-yet-unpublished collaborative work between the labs of @vram142.bsky.social and @fmattiroli.bsky.social !
Spoiler: the little Lego flower sets are the best!! So glad you get to build one.
No cheating, post the last photo of your pet (Clara sleeping during the day after having woken me up at 3am)
As a peanut allergy-haver I feel... Offended?
I saw the helicopter and was hoping for this pic!
Carolyn Bertozzi stands at a podium with two fingers up in the air. Crowd in the forefront and background with signs supporting science.
Amazing speech from Carolyn Bertozzi at the SF Stand Up for Science Rally today! @standupforscience.bsky.social @carolynbertozzi.bskyverified.social
Never expected social security to last until my retirement but thought it would be there for my parents!
not paying indirect costs for research is like only paying the players in the Super Bowl.
can't have a Super Bowl without coaches, referees, security, janitors, announcers, stadium staff, and a stadium - and you can't have research without supporting people and facilities
Indirects fund my lights, desk, bench, computer, data storage, compute server, and the admin who make it so I can spend time doing research instead of scheduling meetings, thinking about budgets, etc. So indirects *are* tied to research, that's why they come with the grant for research.
Diversity makes your science better, pass it on.
Check out our latest preprint - happy to have assisted on this very very cool new method from our lab on nucleosome distortion!
A tortoiseshell cat curled up in the sun on top of a window cat tree, looking at the camera with her mouth open mid-meow. She's also wearing a cute red plaid bow tie.
Here's a cat, for some joy today. (Her name is Llamita and she embodies the concept of "tortitude")
Probably not a lot! Maybe 5x? @pacbio.bsky.social
I'm privileged to be pretty healthy and have always had insurance, but even then, I have spent a lot of time and energy fighting insurance. In grad school I had dual coverage, which meant neither insurance wanted to pay and recently my insurance told me that only people under 18 had acne. 🙄🤔
We were supposed to have Christmas together and now I'll never see him again. The driver will be charged with manslaughter but it doesn't feel like enough for the pain they've caused. Don't be like them, if you're under the influence, give someone sober the keys.
My cousin, may he rest in peace, had a wonderful fiance, a beautiful sister, a caring father... He had me, his other cousins, his aunts and uncles, his friends. And now we are all poorer without him because someone chose to get on the road under the influence.
If you choose to operate a vehicle when you are not sober, I have no respect for you and would urge you to make better choices for the sake of others on the road. In an instant, you can permanently affect the lives of someone's family and friends.
The tsunami warning when I'm trying to coordinate finally bringing home my cat from the emergency vet after 3 days is wild. My emotions are very on edge.
Super recommend following the Groth lab and checking out their work - they're great collaborators too!
A black and white long-haired cat sitting on a stretched out person on a couch (you can only see the person's torso and legs under a blanket).
When you have to leave at 7:30am in the rain to drive to campus but your partner works from home and sends you this... 😭
A tortoiseshell cat rolls, belly-up, in a patch of sunlight in the kitchen while a black and white cat looks on from a perch in an open shelf.
Myself and my two girls, thanks!
Adjuncting, but we got 2 days of "fall break" at Indigenous People's day + Tues, but then this week we have class M-W. Not expecting great attendance on Wednesday.
Nothing against you, I'm sure! Just trying to sympathize between two people who have had a hard time. It's a far worse feeling when you think you're the only one. I don't know the editor's name in either case.
