An Amalekite who escaped from the camp of #Israel came to #David with Saul’s crown and told him that Saul and his sons were #dead. He told David that #Saul was dying and asked the man to kill him, so he killed Saul. David had the man executed and then mourned Saul and #Jonathan. (v1-27)

#Israel fled from the Philistines and were slain. The #Philistines killed Saul’s three sons. Saul was badly wounded by archers. Saul’s armor-bearer wouldn’t kill him so #Saul committed suicide. His armor-bearer then committed #suicide. The Philistines found and #beheaded Saul. (v1-13)

The Amalekites raided #Ziklag, took spoil and captives, including David’s wives, and burned Ziklag. David inquired of the #LORD, who told David to pursue them and rescue the captives. #David and 400 men struck down the #Amalekites, rescued the captives, and reclaimed the spoil. (v1-31)

The commanders of the #Philistines asked why #Hebrews were among them. Achish vouched for #David, but the commanders suspected that David and his men would betray them during battle, so they ordered them to leave. #Achish commended David and advised him to leave in the morning. (v1-11)

#Israel and the Philistines prepared for war. Saul feared their army. He sought the #LORD to no avail and then had a #medium summon Samuel by #necromancy. Samuel told Saul the kingdom belonged to #David, Israel would lose the war, and tomorrow he and his sons would join Samuel. (v1-25)

#David, his 2 wives, and 600 men fled to the land of the #Philistines to Achish, son of the king of Gath. David asked #Achish for a country town to live in. Achish gave #Ziklag to David. David and his men would make raids and bring back goods to Achish, so Achish trusted David.

Saul again pursued #David. David’s spies found Saul’s camp, so he went and took Saul’s spear and water jar while he slept. David then ascended a hill and called out Abner for not protecting Saul. #Saul recognized David’s voice, blessed David for sparing him again, and departed. (v1-25)

Samuel died. (v1)

In the wilderness, David’s men cared for Nabal’s livestock. David had them ask Nabal for food, but he refused. #David prepared to attack, but Nabal’s wife, #Abigail, intervened with food and pleas. Afterwards, #God struck down Nabal and David married Abigail. (v2-42)

Saul pursued #David in the wilderness and entered a cave to relieve himself. David entered the #cave and covertly cut off a corner of Saul’s #robe. David followed #Saul out and told him about #God giving Saul into his hand yet sparing his #life. Saul praised David and departed. (v1-22)

Philistines attacked the city of Keilah. #David asked the #LORD, “Shall I go and attack these Philistines?” #God replied, “Go…save Keilah.” David and his men saved Keilah (v1-5)

As #Saul pursued David, the Philistines began raiding #Israel. Saul stopped pursuing and returned. (v15-28)

#David fled to a cave, then to Mizpeh, and then to a forest. (v1-5)

#Saul ordered his servants to kill #Ahimelech and the #priests of the #LORD from #Nob for helping David. His #servants refused, so he had Doeg kill them. Only #Abiathar, the son of Ahimelech, escaped to David. (v6-23)

#David went to Ahimelech in Nob and asked him for something to eat. #Ahimelech only had holy bread, so he gave David and his men the #holy #bread to eat. David then asked him for a weapon, and he gave him Goliath’s #sword. (v1-9)

David acted insane to escape the king of Gath. (v10-15)

#David to Jonathan, “What is my sin before your father, that he seeks my life?” Jonathan replied, “You shall not die…My father does nothing without disclosing it to me.” (v1-2)

Shortly after, #Saul ordered David to be brought in and killed. #Jonathan then helped David #escape. (v4-42)

Saul expressed his desire to kill #David, but #Jonathan persuaded him against it. (v1-6)

A harmful spirit came upon #Saul and he tried to impale David with a spear. David then fled to Samuel. David and Samuel went and lived at #Naioth, where the #Spirit of #God protected them. (v9-24)

“ #Jonathan made a #covenant with David, because he loved him as his own soul.” (v3)

“Saul was afraid of David because the #LORD was with him but had departed from #Saul.” (v12)

Saul’s bride-price for Michal was 100 foreskins of slain Philistines. #David killed and gave 200. (v24-28)

The Philistines went to battle Israel. Goliath challenged Israel to send a #champion to fight him. #David convinced #Saul to let him fight. David ran to #Goliath, slung a stone at Goliath’s head that killed him, and cut off Goliath’s head. #Israel then pursued the #Philistines. (v1-58)

The #LORD to Samuel, “Fill your horn with oil, and go…to Jesse…for I have provided for myself a #king among his sons.” (v1)

#Jesse showed Samuel his sons and #God chose his youngest, #David. The LORD said, “ #Anoint him. For this is he.” David then entered into Saul’s service. (v6-23)

The #LORD told Saul to kill everything in Amalek, but he spared their king and livestock. #God regretted making Saul king. Samuel told #Saul there would be a new king. (v1-35)

“Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the LORD?…” (v22)

#Jonathan and his armor-bearer went to the Philistine garrison.

“…Jonathan and his armor-bearer…killed about twenty men…And there was a panic in the camp…every Philistine’s sword was against his fellow…there was very great confusion…So the #LORD saved #Israel that day…” (v14-15,20,23)

#Saul cut up oxen and sent pieces to the #tribes of #Israel as a warning to those who did not join in fighting the Ammonites. The 330,000 who joined defeated the Ammonites and freed Jabesh-Gilead. The #kingdom was then #renewed. (v5-15)

Philistines set the Ark of #God beside their god Dagon. The next day, Dagon was found face down before the Ark, so they put it back. Dagon was then found face down with head and hands cut off. Men got tumors in any Philistine town the #Ark was kept, so they decided to return it. (v1-12)

“Now #Israel went out to battle against the Philistines…Israel was defeated before the Philistines…” (1-2)

Israel brought out the Ark of the #Covenant thinking it would help them in battle. The Philistines then defeated Israel and stole the #Ark. Eli’s sons died then #Eli died. (v3-22)

Samuel did not know the LORD,(v7) yet #God called out to him 3 times. Each time, Samuel thought it was Eli #calling him. #Eli told Samuel to ask God to speak. God spoke of punishing Eli’s house due his sons’ blasphemy. Later on, Samuel was established as a #prophet of the #LORD. (v1-22)
